What patch do we Australians download?
I just tried the anno1701_patch102_uk.exe - 49mb later it tells me incorrect language :(
Does this mean we cant upgrade! - help me please!

No, this far from means that you cannot upgrade. Some had problems with patching and for some you had to "mod" the registry key to allow for it, but don't ask me what needs to be done as I only work with system and gameplay issues. You might try the US English to see if that will work as well, but most likely it's the first option I ntoed. Wait for another to give you the details is all I can offer for now.
Sincerely,
Phil

You need to change the registry entry for the language....it is under
Arbeitsplatz\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sunflower s\Anno 1701
then there is an entry Language...I guess, if you change it to UK you might be able to install the UK patch..
but note:
changes in the registry might cause severe damage to your PC if they are not made properly, so beware aware of that!!!!!!!!
As stated here (http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?t=16946) it is the US-Version...

Also see WaxWorm is also "on the ball". Thanks for the link.

Downloaded the US patch that didnt work either.
So neither US or UK patches work for AUS.
I will edit my registry next. But sheesh we shouldnt have to-do that.
First I will fire up the game again and see if they have a American or English accent :)

No, you shouldn't have to edit your registry. From what I gather, something writtin in the first patch (or the game itself) is the source of this problem and TMK, nothing was done to correct it save this "fix" that has been made public. As I noted earlier, I am just here to help with game issues related to systems and the requirements the game states on the box and are noted here. Patches are not included in this description I'm sorry to say as I'm but a troubleshooter, and not a programmer.

Phil

Tried that - did bugger all. :(
I think they need to release an AUS patch next.
The distributor is responsible for the distribution of the patches, they have to adapt the patch to their release of the game!

Thank you Dobber! (Wondered when somebody would make the issue clear.) If not one of the original released "languages", then what Dobber said is the case. I am also not aware which languages were originally supported, so once new langauges are added it does get confusing. Much like Sega is the distruibutor for all non-USA versions of Sierra games (the latest being Caesar 4), they are then respoinsible for working with the owners or making the new patches themselves.

Phil

Ok, Ive managed to upgrade my AUS 1.01 version to 1.02 using the UK patch. :)
Before I was adding the data value UK for the Language RegKey setting - well that would make sense wouldnt it but to make it recognise UK patch we need to add data value ENG

It's probably done, but usually they use two and not three letters so it would be EN rahter than ENG, and US for USA.

Phil
