Fellows,
I am having a problem with a driver file: ATI's ati2dvag. The blue screen tells me there is something wrong with the driver file or that the hardware, that is the graphics card, does not respond to this driver file. Windows also comments that the specific routine (?) goes into an infinite loop and therefore the error.
I restart the computer and everything works again just fine.
It seems that when more time is spent for playing the game, say 2 hours, this problem occurs.
Any comments?
Welcome to the forum, sundragon! :halloha:
I will move your post to the Technical Help section so the technically inclined volunteers will notice your post!
Often, this is related to a corrupted installation of the graphics driver & directx.
I'd:
1. download the newest driver from www.ati.com and the newest directx-version (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d2e2cae1-6aef-4a40-bd00-f0fb2a71e99f&DisplayLang=en)
2. uninstall the ATI-Driver (first "normally" via Control Panel/Software and then run the ATI-Uninstall-Tool https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe).
3. restart your system and cancel the automatic installation
4. install the new ATI-driver
5. following a restart, install the new directx
6. try, if it works
If not, please provide us your DxDiag.
Could be overheating, check inside to see the fans are clean.

Things to note and amend. Yes, Rnett could be right that it might very well be overheating. WaxWorm is also (partially) right, at least in his instructions. The only modification I'd make is it depends on what card you have as to which drivers work best. If you have a X1000 or greater, yes the newest drivers are best. However, not for any of the others. If you have a X-series less than 1000, you should use the Catalyst 5.4 (April 2005) drivers. If prior to the X-series (9000s and less) you should use the Catalyst 6.5 (May 2006) version. If anyone asks, I can elaborate further, but we need to know the card number if you don't as to which drivers to suggest. I also agree with WaxWorm (and even better if provided now) that we'd like to see your DxDiag and maybe your background programs list as well. We will be waiting for further updates and good luck!
Sincerely,
Phil

Thanks, guys, for the concern.
Due to impatience on my part, I switched to Vista Ultimate. The game works fine! I since then installed Vista drivers for ATI X550 - the Catalyst Driver 7.5. Looks ok so far. I tried playing for 2+ hours and I haven't encountered any problems (so far). I used the latest DirectX drivers and DXDIAG lists the DirectX as version 10. The game runs on 1.5GB memory. But Office 2003 is not installed.
The ticket I sent to ATI remains unanswered but I think there is still some problems with the Catalyst Driver. Also, the Realtek Drivers could not get the HDA working properly for Dolby.
Thanks once again for your concerns.

While I won't say to undo what you have done, as Vista is neither supported or bug-free, the Catalyst 7.5 seem to work best with it. If not it is a I noted (Catalyst 4.5 April 2005) that work best. Good Lcuk and we'll be here if further assistance is needed, but we can make no guarantees with the OS you changed to.
Sincerely,
Phil
