While you defined the problem you did not note what you have done. Such as what version is the game patched to (if any)? Nor have you provided the technical information we request (DxDiag and list of background programs). So, would you please provide and this will be noted to one who seems to have the known fix for this if not a bad install or patch of the game itself.
Sincerely,
Phil

sorry, its patched up to date. and i can gaurentee there is nothing in a dxdiag report that would explain this. it has to be a game code issue. no background programs are running beyond what windows loads. and if those cause this, then i come back to it being a game code issue.
from your post it appears this is a known issue with a fix, have i interpreted correctly?

Yes, TMK (as I've not experienced it personally), there is a fix for this, but I must note one thing you are incorrect about. MS "dumps" things in the background that are not necessary and Vista is worse than XP in this regard, but XP is bad enough. Even though few mess with the actual services (Services tab in msconfig) there are many not need there either, but the background programs (Startup tab of msconfig) is almost always full of unneeded "junk". The game has nothing to do with this, but MS itself and how the OS was designed is where this blame is to be laid. This is by no means the only game with this issue either as I've been troubleshooting on many other forums as well and this is the newest on the list of forums I help on.
I have noted this to the one who has posted the "fix" (if it is an actual fix as such) and when he replies we'll hope this will resolve your issue. If not, refer to what I said as I know of theng even those with experience have missed. Be watching is all I can add right now until you get the input from the other and try it. If not, I'll be here and watching. Good Luck!
Sincerely,
Phil

rest assured i have done all of that and more. and like i said, if the game cannot run correctly on a system that has nothing running other than basic services and processes that run with windows its bad coding. the vast majority of computer users have no idea how to deal with any of that and as such games are written to be able to operate under worse conditions than that. in fact a large part of beta testing is devoted to running programs under varying conditions, to ensure things like normal processes and services do not cause problems.
i dont mean to be cheeky, but i've looked over the forum looking for a solution before posting, and while i'm sure you've helped a lot of people with simple issues, you've also given out incorrect information in many cases.

You can think as you will about the advice I've given, but unless you can back up what you've said with facts, it is you who need to backtrack on what you've said, as normally I'm the one who will be the one to answer all questions. My record, while not perfect, has been sound and you know nothing of my own experiences and what I've not only done to test and verify but verified with software and hardware companies including MS themselves. Save on issues II've not experienced myself (yours being one), it is me who will most likely answer as that is the only reason I'm here to begin with (to help get the game and systems working at their best). When I've not experienced, then I refer as I have done, but I know what can cause conflicts and/or problems many (and can include you) don't. I have little time for playing as I'm devoted to helping and have the experiences and "know how" to back up what I say as fact.
Consider this one unwritten rule in forums. You snipe at one volunteer, you might as well have done it to all of us, and I have a memory the elephant is jealous of.

Welcome to the forum, mighty gaz! :halloha:
I am the one Phil thought had mentioned a fix, but I don't recall a fix, but then I have nearly 7000 posta on the forum with over 2500 of them being since the game came out and spread over every game in the forum, so I could have mentioned a fix and forgotten that I did.
I tend to think that probably the AI is feeling threatened by you for some other reason and the random messages for that threat have gotten crossed up and that message is being selected random;y to be played. I may however be wrong about that. I will try to find the other thread this threat was mentioned, it may take a bit of searching though. The search criteria I am going to use is an advanced search with threat as the keyword and Dobber as the post maker.

I believe this may be the thread Phil was talking about, but there was no fix mentioned.

i'm not sniping, just poointing out some of what you have is not fact as you claim.
now again, i'm not trying to offend, but i came to get support from the game makers. i apreciate people trying to help, and you have helped many. but you also give out wrong info.
you said direct x 9.0c aint compatible with SP1 on XP. it is. you dont need SP2. you also said you need .NET framework 2.0 for it. you dont. at all. it has no relation to direct x at all. you said intel chipsets have pixel shader 1.1 support in the hardware, but no drivers do. well thats also wrong. no intel chipsets have only 1.1 support. those that have pixel shader support either have support for 2.0 (and as an extension 1.1 & 1.4 too) or 3.0 (again, 1.1, 1.4 & 2.0 are included) and the drivers DO support these modes.
please, continue to help, but make show you know what you are talking about before branching into more complex advice.

thanks. so no fix :(
and phil, your assesment in there was same as mine in here. its a coding issue.
No fix unless someone has experienced it in the German side and found a fix, but I cannot read German well enough to even start to look there.
The game makers seldom ever come to the forum and when they do, I think they mainly visit the German side, since this is made by a German based company. So you are basically stuck with us volunteers!

cheers, i'll submit it via the ticket system on the main game site. no disrespect meant to volunteers, but i'm a software developer and if i cant fix the issue, i doubt any of you can help me out. its got to be a code bug. i've just got the game so will reinstall and see if it sorts it.
and if it doesnt i would never decompile the exe and see if i can see what the issue is. not ever
That sounds like a great idea! If you don't mind, let us know how things work out with them! :go:

I just love being misquoted. What you overlooked is that I said that DX9.0c (the 2007 versions) require .NET Framework 2.0 (at least as I have 3.0 myself) and that came from MS. You need SP2 for .NET Framework 2.0 to be available and that is fact. So, you can argue the point, but you will have to argue with MS as well as it came from them.
Intel doe not write their own drivers. So, chips do support the shaders and Intel has admitted no drivers were written to support them. The newer chips do in fact support 1.1 and newer, but the drivers have been missed in the process. Like I said, I can back up what I say and from those who are "in charge".
So, while you work for companyies where I do not, you also need to get what you say verified as I have as well. I don't mess with e-mails, but use the phone and know the numbers.
As I said, you can think as you will, but don't think I don't verify anything before I state it. I also personally would not have an Intel chip as they do not have the abilities any card (as not only the GPU is taken into account) when it comes to graphic capabilities.
You have programming experience it seems where I do not, so the rest I will leave to you as I'm but a troubleshooter who knows his limits, and I wish you the best in so doing.
My Best to You,
Phil

This problem has been reported in the German section and it was always going hand in hand with the use of a no-CD crack.
So mighty gaz I am sorry asking you, but are you using a no-cd crack?!?
Thanks for bringing one cause for it to light, Moryarity!
mighty gaz, if you are using a NoCD crack, you will get no support from anywhere!

I remember this problem being adressed in one of the patches, so if it is still a 1.00 version of the game, the problem may be solved with a patch..but if it is a fully patched version, most times it is because of the use of a no Cd crack...

As also noted in PMs, thanks Ma'am! If this is the case that would explaine the issue and why it has been rarely seen.
Hats off to YOU, http://www.smileycons.com/img/default/0529.gif

Sarcasm decomplied. This fine fellow has decided that there is a "code bug" and he will most certainly go into the main program to "fix" it because -- like climbing to a mountain peak -- he can. The law does not apply to those who can "decode" the law.
Hello, will you issue openly your own "private" patch to fix the code bug?
