The plan is having one before release.
I hate to interfere and be annoying, and I know I'm not a mod, but isn't this fairly on-topic KoH-stuff?:bday:

I realize that the game release date is still a ways off but for a demo to be of much use in marketing the game, it must come out 3-6 months prior to the game's release. We are very close to that window if the KoH is released at the suggested time.
It has been stated, I believe by Frank, that there will be a demo. I also saw a comment that there would be a short movie. Can we please get a window of time when these will be available. The problem with building everyone's hopes up and not giving them anything for so long is some will lose interest, if not hope. Please get us the demo and the movie as soon as possible.
I would like to thank you for the forums as I have learned a lot from the posts.

Hey these are mafia-tactics :)
Honestly the reason we dont confirm a release date of a demo is that we want to have good demo and a polished demo. But most important is the game and we are still away from finishing it.
If you expecting a demo 3 - 6 months, then I have disappoint you. But if you look at the current trend you will be happy having a demo at all prior release. I can assure you that we will do all to give you demo before release.
Only I can say that there will be a demo prior release. But we prefer to finish the game and make a demo then, as we dont want to release a demo which we are not happy with or does not have anything in common with the final game. In our opinion a demo is for giving you an accurate taste of the final game. But as earlier you release as far away it will be.
The nature of KoH as an dynamic game, requires that all important features have to work and have to work good. In a level or scenario based game it is easier you give two - three maps which are polished. In KoH not possible, we have one giant main map also it is realtime. And there are many more reasons....
Regarding the movies. They will be released much earlier than the demo but some parts of the game are not finished or in that stage to be shown on a video.
Also you can imagine that the demo is very important for SUNFLOWERS too as a marketing tool. Therefore it is not only up to the developer when it will be released
We really hope that you understand. We want to give you a damn good demo and that needs time.

:D because we can't wait much longer
That sounds fair....... .....as long as there will be some screenshots every now and then....I will still be satisfied enough.....sure waiting for the game and the demo....but also want a good game!!! But also love the screenies....so aslong as they will still be coming....I will be coming to this forum to ask evrything I want to know...hoping for as much anwsers.....
Alas my comrades, Did any of you by chance spend any time awaiting a most recent release of a Sunflowers product called ANNO 1503 or international counterpart 1503 AD - The New World? If so, you know how long the wait can be!:D

the end product was pretty good tho.... I suppose thats what really counts.
you have to remember, although it really hurts us gamers by delaying product release, its the dev team and their family that will eventually starve / suffer (look at whats happening to Black Isle now) by an extended delay.
Therefore, it is in their best interest to release the game ASAP, while making the game as good as they promised. So please, lets all be a bit more mature and understanding about this. Imagine a bus full of kiddies yelling "are we there yet" all the way during your trip??
Having said all that, I can fully understand the anticipation for KOH is building up! :D

good explanation Frank!
Like most great games these days (Doom3, Duke Nukem Forever) they take a long time to develop.
Patience everyone im sure the final product will be worth the wait.
Just think for those who like to have high post stats you might even reach 1000 posts before a demo release, gawd help us :)

I hope that the release-date will be as correct as possible and not something like "If santa brings us a Cd with all that AI-stuff on it, we will be able to release on 1. April" ;) .
I don't like to be dissapointed by a delay...
