congratulations to england in winning the rugby world cup, did anyone beside myself have the plesure of seeing it?
I got annoyed at the ref a few times to the point of turning it off, then i got a phone call that england won
yay :D
CONGRATZ ENGLAND!!
Great final!
was very surprised that this was the first time for England....I thought they won often....which countries do then??
Congrats though!!!
the 'big' rugby nations have to be Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England, France, Wales.... (probably in that order)
but i dont know exactly how many WC's there have been and who's won them...
Thought so...therefor also thought that England had won it allready....mistake....
Still wonder wich countries did win the WC a lot...

Hmm, this is pretty interesting, but why do they only have the rugby world cup (or for that matter, the world cup for football/soccer) every four years? If they held the world cup every year, or perhaps every two years, wouldn't they be able to gain more publicity/popularity for the sport, plus raise more revenues from ticket sales, advertising, etc.?

I think 4 years is good because it raises the interest levels for the game. We have annual competitions as well - In the northern hemisphere there is the 6 Nations Championship (England, France, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Italy). In the southern hemisphere we have the Tri-nations between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In addition we have a competition called the Super12 that is analagous to the UEFA champions league. However, the Super12 is only for 12 rugby teams from the trinations countries.
The problem with the current setup is that smaller/weaker teams like Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Argentina, etc. miss out on these competitions. Hence their level of play and finances has decreased each year.
RWC results:
20/6/1987 NEW ZEALAND Beat France 29-9 in the final, Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand
2/11/1991 AUSTRALIA Beat England 12-6 in the final, Twickenham, London, England
24/6/1995 SOUTH AFRICA Beat New Zealand 15-12 in the final, Ellis Park, Johannesburg
(after 20 minutes extra time: winning drop goal by Joel Stransky)
6/11/1999 AUSTRALIA Beat France 35-12 in the final, Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales
22/11/2003 ENGLAND Beat Australia 20-17- in the final, Telstra Stadium, Sydney, Australia
(after 20 minutes extra time: winning drop goal; by Jonny Wilkinson)
