The game needs to set of ports:

1. 23085, 23086 - TCP ports. They are needed for the lobby.
2. 27323 - 27328 - UDP ports. Needed for the gameplay.

If behind a firewall you have to allow outgoing connections for the lobby ports if the client is behind the firewall and in both directions if the server is behind the firewall. For the gameplay ports you have to have them opened in both directions (in & out). Also either port forwarding or static ip address are required if behind a router.

not sure yet...

Everytime you see a message "xyz is dropping in y seconds" while playing and the game gets laggy then it is likely that this guys settings are not correct.

I get the same message. I believe my router doesn't handle the TCP-packets correctly.

No. It's not the fault of your router or Firewall settings. The ploblem lies with the other players who are being dropped. Apparently, a lot of players go online without checking their settings. :D

I was wondering. How do you type messages to other players in KOH muiltiplayer?

1. check if there is a new firmware available for your router. coz the initial releases have often a buggy SPI, which can manage port settings dynamically.
2. open the ports (from the first post) or for testing put your pc in the DMZ, so all ports are open. BEWARE windows is very vunerable without any firewall (worms like sasser and co).
3. the opened ports must be directed to your PCs IP !!! take a look if this one isn't changed with every reboot by your routers DHCP function. the best is to map the MAC to a specific IP.

Some people also play via a simple hub...and it's much harder to configurate than a router...any idea ?

I've tried through gamespy and it's not working with KOH (i've played cossacks using gamespy for 3 years now and never had any problems to join games)

i can allow exceptions for firewall....all my other multipayer games work because they are checked in the windows firewall settings box....but since this game does not install to the hard drive...only memory, i cant find it in the setting boxs box to allow an exception through the firewall....

Is there a way i can install it?
