View Full Version : Conflict: Hook...
Just bought the retial version (English) today.
Can't get the game to run though :(
Keep getting ...
Conflict: a hook process was found. Please deactivate all Antivirus and Anti-Trojan programs and debuggers.
Saw the other post about this with the demo version.
ANy ideas. This is wrecking my head.
I've NO anti virus, CD/DVD emulation etc...
What OS are you running ? I guess it's WinXP Pro ? SP1 of SP2 ?
Try running Ad-aware or Stinger to remove some 'unwanted' or invisible programs running in the background.
hi brianon,
we`ve got in the german forum the same problem. But the defect corrected when the user found out that he has still an ad-ware program in process when try to start KOH.
Maybe you also have any Firewalls, Pop-up blocker or something like this run in the background.
greetz hasi :)

I've NO anti virus, CD/DVD emulation etc...I had the same problem when trying to run the demo. In my case i had to shut down Spy Sweeper by Webroot, a program that prevents spy and mallware.
This is also an example of bad software, this way I can't protect my pc from spy and mallware if I wan't to play the game. And that's just simply weird.
Ok, so I figured out which app was causing the problem.
Its SpamBully. Uninstalled it and KOH runs fine.
Reinstalled and KOH gives teh conflict error !
SpamBully is an excellent app and its a bit ridiculous for me to have to uninstall it to play KOH.
Even if I disable spambully, KOH still does not work !

maybe its running as a service you can stop during playing knights of honor?
take a look in the service list by:
start -> run -> "services.msc /c" ENTER

Actually, mr webmaster... Why does KoH conflict with such programs in the first place?
anti-Viral, spyware, pop-up blockers, malware preventers... KoH shouldn't be conflicting with them in the first place.
Next thing we'll hear.. "Oh, KoH requires me to shutdown my firewall." hehe. okay.. why?
@Sir Turylon:
It's not KoH that hooks on SpamBully; I guess it's SpamBully that causes the problem.
A hook is a point in the system message-handling mechanism where an application can install a subroutine to monitor the message traffic in the system and process certain types of messages before they reach the target window procedure. SpamBully probably (and other a lot of other tools) hook in to apps to trap those messages.
At first sight: KoH can't help it.

i will ask the devs for a concrete answer. but i think it is not KoH throwing this message. it is the copy protection within KoH.
Tools like Spy Sweeper or in this case Spambully usually run as a hook injected into some Windows operating system APIs. When such a hook hasn't been programmed correctly it can cause all kinds of problems with other programs - e.g. prevent them from starting. This will usually be fixed by the authors of those tools, by correcting their hooking code.

ahh. that explains it. danke.
Will CDRW drives with a CD-Formating tool and CD-Copy tool conflict? (since it monitors the CDRW drive to notify if a CD is in it.)
holy thanks the KoH doesn't conflict with running PC and Monitor :PPPP

normal cd writing tools like nero or winoncd don't interfere.
btw its a windows function recognizing cd notifaction
just tools like blind write + daemon tool etc. might interfere

yeah. auto-insert notification. or Autoplay. I have a TDK drive that runs... a program in the background which scans the drive when a new CD is put in to notify if the CD is writable or not.
for rest... If you are familiar with the MSconfig ability.. you might try diabling those programs from starting when Windows boots up. (you can always start em up later) It will save you the trouble of having to uninstall the software. :go:

Why is KoH the only game/app that has a problem with my Spysweeper? I run tons of different apps on my pc and this is the first time ever I got such a message. I blame the faulty copyprotection system. :angry:

in this case it isn't faulty ... hooks can be use to sniff the copy protections functions/keys/etc. so the system prevents this (or is trying to).
you can also use the service manager under win 2k/xp to deactivate such software.
start -> run -> "services.msc /s" ENTER
