Combo Drive Problem?

Sometimes when I try to start the game I get an error message, saying: cannot identify original cd within time limit. reload the cd or try a different drive - or something like that. Now, I only have 1 drive, a combo drive, and reloading also doesn't help, the game won't start until I restart the system. Does anyone know the reason for that? Coz it works sometimes and i haven't yet figured out why.

somekind of CD emulation,reading software or other background processe activated?

which manufacture and windows?

well yes sure, i'm running a lot in the background. first their is windows firewall (sp2), also norton antivirus 2005 with it's anti worm protection. i figured it might be alcohol, since that's the only emulation software on my system but it has worked running alcohol before and it hasn't when alcohol was deactivated. their may be more, i will check in tsakmanager if there's anything which could interfere with the game. thanks anyway.

firewall and anti virus should be fine, give deinstalling alcohol a try

No can't do sir. I'll just put up with that problem until i can crack the exe. Thanks for your help though.
