Restoration of the Pope?

In my game the papacy was destroyed by the Norwegians... is there a way to restore the papacy? If I took Rome... could I purposefully let rebels have it or something?

Not that I want that trouble maker back... but just curious.

Seemed a little too easy in my game for the pope to disappear.

If u free the papacy you ill get a reward.Read it somewhere, but cant remember ;(

So I did it... I didn't see any reward. I had a 5-star cleric get appointed pope... but I would expect that anyway... And the Papacy is NEUTRAL towards me- they ought to be at the TOP of their relationship scale toward me for the favor I did them!

Grrrr.... needs rebalancing.

Yeah you can only call for a crusade using your OWN knights? What gives with that?? Try it- click on your marshal and it's now an option.

I read in a thread that if you free the papacy you would recive a reward, don't know if is true.. i just suggested it.

No. For that matter it doesn't improve with them when I donate money to the pope via the piety report...

And also, giving money to the pope directly gets me better relations than donating to him cash AND piety...

It did for me. I had the entire Catholic population licking my boots to be my friend because I gave a lot of money and piety to the Pope.

Dearmad, in KoH there is a "hidden" value representing "HOW godd Catholic you are". There is intuitive gameplay about it. The relationship betweem you and Papal state is one of the factors taking place in calcultion this value, but there are at least 10 more factors.

Restoring the Pope surely is something very much appreciated by him. :)

so that's whats happend to the pope, i've bin wondering where he went, i just got bored and conquerd the papacy... everybody hated them anywayz... why can't you reanimate the pope yourself when you control italy... o well..not a loss.. those pointless crusaders every 2 minutes got annoying..

I restored papacy after been taken over by Venice. But I am an orthodoxal and I see not the point of restoring the papacy and installing a new catholic pope on the place instead of my puppet there. It's worth restoring it only if you're a catholic but little point if you are of other faith. Oh well I got harmonious realations and an alliance with the papacy as well as a crusade declared against venice, which was previously occupying rome, but nothing else. I think it would be better if you restore the papacy to have a way to get your man to the place of the pope.

I also restored papacy but their stances towards me where NEUTRAL and all my provinces are catholic. This isn't logical !!!!!

I restored Rome to the church after it had been taken over by the Fatimids, gave it loads of cash to help out, even gave it parts of Italy to help it back on to its feet and hold back the muslim invasion. My reward was to be offered a crusade, I turned it down as I had done enuff for them imo and was then excommunicated, so next time they can just bog off the ungrateful oiks, lol.

I must agree that after restoring papacy a player shold recieve some more "bonuses" than you described...

Also when your cleric became the pope, you can do almost nothing with hi. Having an option to use your knights as crusaders(what means lose your marshall!!! damn! Neither of my marshals leading crusade returned back to my royal court, either ho got killed or he claimed throne in new vassal state. I expected he will be at least my puppet king) and the possibility of asking to excomunicate any kingdom is very, very poooooor.

I think that not only your knights can become crusaders. And alose excommunication someone from the church leads to decreasing realtions of all the catholic nations towards him.

Hah! I was playing with Bulgaria, conquered a large portion of Europe, Leinster, Lothian and some other strong (at that time) catholic nations hated me, and when I conquered Rome from muslim Sicily and decided to keep it for myself - they were all harmonius with me! :silly: I guess they didn't like him very much!
