no longer have option to ask for papal pardon [Archive]

i'm playing a game and got excommunicated, but in the piety screen i could ask for a pardon by giving like 40,000 gold and 1000 piety. but now, it doesn't have that option anymore; the left side of the screen is just blank. why is this. also, is there a way to talk to the pope or have relations with the pope or can you just do that with the dodge?

also, why can't you see the destination of crusader armies? i think this is very annoying.

It is blank because perhaps the Papacy was destroyed. Why don't you free Rome? :)
