View Full Version : Exhausted by war rating
Hi there..
I need help on decreasing the Exhausted by War rating in a towns happiness status. Im constantly stuck around 20% in the red. It is rather annoying as i have decent towns which is keeping the happiness rating in the green, just tho. But as soon as a king dies my hapiness plunges into the red and all hell breaks loose in the provinces. Rebels start appearing.
I wouldnt say im at war constantly, pretty peaceful most of the time, with maybes 1 or 2 distant provinces declaring war on me, as they need more land, altho they never actually set foot in my provinces. Some provinces closer are maybes in a feudal state with me but still have white peace and trade agrements.
This is stopping me progress through Europe, too many rebels not enough marshals :)
Now is this 'Exhausted by Wa'r caused by other provinces fighting around you altho you have no control over them and cant make them declare peace with each other ?
thanks in advance

You need peace with all states. Try it with some Gold as tribute in the negotiations.
New provs have up to 10% nostalgia, but you can reduce it to 0 with a Kleric as govener and 1000 books. As long as there is nostalgia, the peasents will start rebellions.
same with religion. You need your statereligion in all provs, otherwise 5% revoltrisk.
best is lower your tax to 0
Hi Peav.
Telling from my experience, your people get exhausted of war as long as you are in war with anyone . As you pointed out correctly, that's almost always the case since some stupid one-provonce-kingdoms from the other side of the map keep declaring war for no apparent reason. But, even if they never set a foot into your countries, you are at war and your people hate it. So stop all wars if you want that rate to improve. Sometimes the guys don't want to end the war, then throw some money at them first.

They have reasons. The AI remembers nearly all your actions. It is by far too complex to say all things that are measured by the AI in one single post.
So in a nutshell: When you behave correctly, the AI does so too.

Yep i know about the nostalgia rating, which i get a cleric to adopt the province to reduce this.
A single province that decides that it wants to rule europe so declares war on everyone. Quite funny looking at the stats page and seeing all the nations shields under at war :P
Question is tho, if I pay for peace, how long before they decide they need new land again and go to war with you ???

the happyness decrease by war is way over the top, it doesn't make sence. and some countries just refuse to have peace with you somtimes, meaning you always are stuck with it... eventhough you never fought the guys who declared war on you..

Here's what I do to solve those little wars: If they are really pissing you off and you don't want to pay them off, just send a marshal down there to capture their marhsals. When you capture them, release them from prison. Ask for peace (or even vassalage) and they'll usually accept. Sometimes it takes a couple more captures, but eventually they'll give in. That is, unless the kingdom is larger than yours; their relationship with you can be harmonious but still refuse vassalage. White peace is a lot easier to get this way, of course.
In one game, I took the Rome as soon as I could. Obviously, half the world the declares war on me and sends their dozens of peasant armies my way. I just sit in the already well defended Roman city with my marshals. They attack with their armies, I capture them. Release them and ask for vassalage. Next thing you know, I already have a good number of vassals and a steady income - and I never set a foot on their lands!
just send a marshal down there to capture their marhsals.
Hmmm... How do you do that ??

If you have any free slots in your Royal Court, you can capture their Marshal and throw them into your jail (occupying one slot in the royal court) after you win the battle (if you hadn't killed them during the battle). You have the option to release them free, get a ransom, or execute them. If you release them for free, you enhance your reputation with his country. And by doing so, you make it easier for them to accept vassalage and/or peace. In my opinion, having a vassal give you tribute and having one less war to fight outweighs the cost of their ransom.

But you can't choose to kill or capture a Marshal, or not ?

yes, when you have him in your dungeons, you can click one button to kill him.
If you can afford, it is always handy to have 1 place for prisoners (to change for gold),

Another way to deal with War Exhaustion is to get the Kingdom Advantage of Spring Festival. This increases the happiness in your towns with inns by +2 and towns with hostels by +5. Also, turn your taxes off. At the point you're having rebellions from war exhaustion constantly, you should be developed enough to gain at least two Kingdom Advantages: Crop Rotation and Spring Festival. One keeps your army going, the other keeps people happier. Give it a try.

The nostalgia rating lasts absurdly long. Given how a kingdom strengthens though the passage of time, these rebels are nothing but training. And this sort of training training is very as only the very best troops can reliably prevail against equal numbers without experience. Going through several reigns and after conversion nostalgia should fall faster. It oftens seem stuck at a high level.
Again if a kingdom is strong the rebels are just exercise for troops and a high kingdom power can be bought relatively cheaply - I think that it should only be possible to raise it if it falls to minus two or some similar level to simulate the buying popularity. Yet in a strong kingdom all that is needed to dispel the danger of secession and mass revolt is to spend 20000 on raising the kingdom level on one or two occasions and some time ravaging those Epiriot hating Scandinavians :).

I had this situation with Kingdoms from the other side of the map just declares war and refuse to make peace. So i use 2 marechals with admiral skill ( faster on water ) and commando style I pay him a visit, siege assault and conquer his "mighty one province kingdom", instant town authorities taken over with money and piety , kill the popup rebels or loyalists, restock food supply and go back. Then i make this province gift to my best friend on the map so problem solved.
So much for declaring war when they even not visit ever my country.lol
As soon as I had around 30 provinces and my marshalls couldn't be everywhere to kill rebels, I placed armies ( without a marshall) in each town. I also keep an open place in my royal court. If there is a rebellion and your marshalls are busy somewhere else, I appoint a marshall to the town, the closest near the rebellion and kill the rebels with the army from the nearest town. Thereafter, I remove my marshall. waiting for the next rebellion
Thats a good tactic... I read something like taht in the german forum, too!
