View Full Version : Aging of Units, Knights, Kings

Actually, what I would like to see are full family lines, not just for the rulers, but for knights as well. Also, when you marry your daughters away, or marry anothers daughter, they should remain listed somewhere, not just disappear. So you may have a knight who's the nephew of the queen mother, for example, and this would affect his loyalty.
it sounds super!! but is too complicated...I think.....
Why not 70+ different kingdoms, for example: one starting point of the game is at the time of Charlemagne (if I remember correctly), so there we have kingdom of the Franks instead of France, there are probably many small kingdoms in British isles also, the map of Spain is totally different, (almost no christian kingdoms)
So if there is different nations for each starting point then there may very well be 70+ kingdoms in all scenarios together.

I had no idea that the topic of aging was going to have this type of reaction:D
So, I have qiestion about female personalities.
There are no faces, so will it be like this?:
exmpl: You merry some king's daughter, and only way, how to "touch" her is to have a look at your diplomatical situation. Like she will have no name. no face etc.
And how about succesion of knights?
There are only our speculations...
(damn. Frank and Frujin are on the tour, it will take long time to recieve answer:bash: ) ;)
And want to say my agreement with Jorghan

Not quite true! The Knights can become Kings and they are not loosing skills. Actually the Kings and their sons has skills as well. The King himself have one additional skill called "King Skill" which is "related" to his original set of 3 skills. You do not know what the King Skill of the Prince (for example) will be if he becomes a King. It is revealed when he takes the crown. But you can guess, since it is "related" to his 3 original skills.

So this in combination with aging and succesion.......
Now I really havenīt got a clue anymore.......
Will Kings get older and get kids.....then will only knights have them when they become king....????Or will everyone have kids and aging.....or noone???????????

The texts on the webpage already say that you are to choose the wifes for your sons wisely (in 'Productinfo' -> 'Diplomacy'). So we can definitely say that kings will have children.
And because these children are going to be Kings, they need to have skills, or they wouldn't have a King-Skill.

Oh, I forgot:
If someone gets kids, he will surely age, or he will soon be father of 22 childen (and can make his own soccer-team ;) ).

So this means that Kings does get kids..... so one question remains......will knights get kids....or only when they become King..???

on a relatively relevant matter,
wouldn't I (as the king) be able to knight people? and hence effectively creat knights? ;)

I am almost sure for you to say no to this answer...I thought I heard from the devs that that was not possible....don't know which thread....you can only pick knights from the database....
almost not a guess.....but it stil is....

I must agree with Arjanvs above.
Also imagine, how will you chose sbdy from the people? to knight anybody means he did a lot for you and your kingdom, especialy in fight, and I don't think you can chose one of your soldiers to knight him. And how will the abilities be given to him-you chose what you want or the comp will?

well, I would imagine the number of knights you can have should be limited by the number of realms / earldoms your kingdom has. If for example I have just taken Chester from the English, wouldn't that mean I can have knight someone and make him the Earl / Count of Chester?
I hope knights will age, because that is vital to the rise and fall of kingdoms. This is also one of the faults of MTW, with which a group of 8 - 10 stars general just kick the crap out of all AI countries.
Another side benefit to the knights aging is the possibility that hostile / disloyal knights' heirs may become neutral again to their leige lord. (of course the death of a king may also sooth those rough feathers :D )
I don't know. You have nice ideas, but the only who can help us is... guess...
My opinion? I think we will be limited by the number of realms, which will influence the number of knights. Don't think it must be the same (some knights are "governors", some "warriors").
And then some revision. In one new article I red there will be 150+types of knights, so maybe not 150+knights, but many more :hello:
I think it's that one: http://boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=3734
So, hope for aging of knights. The example from MTW and 8generals is terryfying...They have to be dead. No "Hihlanders", no MacLeods

I read some were that there will be about 1000 knights.
Go to this site, it will be in the 3rd paragraph and 4th sentence:

yes, there must be around 1000 knights. Why would they create ~1000 portraits (the avatars) if there are ~150 knights.
---
Can you imagine - using the same avatar for about a year in this forum and then when the games comes out - this is your enemy. :) Won't you feel compelled to choose the knight that has Elewyn's or Arjenvs' or Frujin's avatar as a face and grant him a province or two?

I don't mind Elewyn's, he looks like one of my kings, John of Loxembourg(the Blind), I think. So I would be very pleased to play with him. But the truth is it will be hard to fight against this guy I have as my face :(

Where do you read about 1000 portraits? The male face portraits here on the forums are 300.
I just noticed 10 female faces in there. *drool* I wonder if they are just for princesses you marry off, or if they are of female warriors and rulers.

I know there are 1000 Knights, i wouldn't have mentioned it if i didn't.
I agree, there are "only" 300 male avatars, butit teems to me like there are some new, brought with ladies.
I also agree with the number 1000, 'cause 300 faces is for more than 150+ knights. And I guess that no.1000 is meant like there's possibility of about 1000knights during whole game, not in the same time. So also the faces can "rotate" - when the knight died, the new-born one can emerge with his face. And I don't think there would be possible to have much more than 200 knights in the same time during the game -there is not enough faces for it.
About female faces/avatars - there's not enough them to be knights'-wives, only princesses.
But it's only my guess
*goes back to topic* And I hope the theme of aging of all these won't be forgotten
