Limited buildings?

I was just wondering if there's a limit on the amount of buildings you can build. When you have filled out your 18 "slots" then what?

It's probably a lame question as it's likely I just missed it in the manual.

There are only 18 slots for buildings. You have to specialize your towns, Some for military units, some for tradegoods, some for special buildings like university.
