How besiege a town ?

Each time i want to start a siege, i click the icon. But this one disappears on the map.

Should i have siege equiments ?

I can not starve atown without them. Only with my army.

1. Are yiou at war with the state the city belongs to?
2. Seigeengines are only needed for heavy fortified towns (will reduce your losses), and usually your tropps can break the towngates and storm the city

I can select the siege icon. But when i drag on the map the icon switch.

May be, there is a level to do it..

Is there another seige of the same town?
Only 2 armies can seige at the same time(2 of yor own or 1 of each ally)

Are there any Fortifications?
If there are none, you´ll only be able to attack (cause there is no sense in beseiging an town without walls :) )

It's may be the explanation i looked for.

But normally a town without wall is captured automatically without fighting. However a battle is started. And i can choice to lead the battle or let it automatic.

This is described into the game. Without defence town surrenders automatically.

sure,maybe there are no visible fortifications, but usually the AI has at least some peasants in the cityslots and they use also the cityguardbuilding.
So even without marschall intown there is a defence.

btw, how can you build siege machines?

You marshal should have engineering skill and a city should have siege workshop. Then you click on... how can I explain..... a 4 squares left from marshals army at the bottom of round button of "hire army".

You click there and you can buy a siege machine for that slot.

yeah, and you need different levels for different machines. Like level 3 engineer for trebushet.
