Please, make it more difficult! Merchants are equivalent to a cheat code... With 3 or 4 I have more money than I can wish... I buy everything instead of build it!

Absolutely stupid thing to say.

Quite an easy way to solve the problem...Dont build 3 or 4 merchants. Keep it at 2 merchants max or whatever you feel best. Later in the game with several highly paid marshalls counters it somewhat.

3 - 4 merchants can indeed be overpowering when you have a small 2-3 province realm and don't need much more knights. Once you grow and start to conquer, and you need at least 3 marshals, plus 2 or more clerics to convert/adopt populace etc., you cannot do that any more.

Those merchants will not be available later on, you will eventually need ALL knight spaces as marshalls. Therefore, the economy is just fine. The only thing I complain about when it comes to difficulty is the armies of the enemy (they keep having peasant armies!).

Yes that bothers me too, 7/10 fights are my feudal knights/teutonic knights vs a bunch of peasants? Maybe introduce a new unit, militia or something. Peasants that get much xp upgrade to militia or something else. Im just tired of pitchfork vs lance.

Pitchforks is just silly anyway. And peasants had to provide their own weapons so the nice thing would be a variety of rusty axes, spears, etc...

Later on in the game, if you have a big apetite as I do, you will be poor :) . I just need every space for my marshals. One merchat if i feel good :)

Yeah, also inflation will eventually eat your income if you are a small country with nothing to spend the money on (e.g. you will have all buildings built in all your cities).

So while at first merchants can gain you a significant advantage, this will eventually be balanced away as you will either grow and have to appoint marshals, or stop growing and have a soaring inflation.
