Very short one:
Will there be a linux-executable?

(Maybe in a later patch)

*Searches for a HDD in his hardware-pile*
*searches for a win98SE-cd in his cd-pile*

*looks at his Gentoo-Linux*
Broadcastmessage from root:
mine is going down to install windows. Please log out.

*grabs the screwdriver from his desk and attacks the midi-tower*

I'm so sorry...
Ehm, what I wanted to say:
I hope you will keep the linux-option available in your next project.
(I understand that a linux-version can heavily delay a release. So I don't want linux-support 'out-of-the-box', because a later patch would also do the work)

Well, you know how it is. It is basically a commercial decision.

The linux game market is just too small:( At the moment there are no plans for a linux port.

Sorry mate...

well, thats true, but if more companys would also support games 4 linux, they could help to push it,...
the truth ist that computergames make computers more interesting. the first computer i had, was cause of games and 4 nothing else. i was not interestet in typing letters, making graphiks or programming and internet was too expensive. i did not even had a printer!
so maybe you think over it,... the company that made "never winter nights" also made a linux client!

Linux version is not our call actually. The publisher / distributor has to decide.

sure never winter nights has a linux client, but it is acctually just a wrapper around the windows version.

on windows u´ve got one single developing environment: directx, for accessing graphics, sounds, networkgaming and so on.

there is nothing similar on linux. ok, opengl u can use for graphics.

but the main reason why linux isn't supported, is because the linux guys won't buy software. they are no market.
like the mac people, they are the few ... !

yes,... but talk also about (young) people who wanna buy a computer. and thoose also look very often for the games and if they know linux is cheap and the games are also running, guess what they would buy?
i know it has nothing to do with the game, but we are in a linux thread so i say it anyway:

gates was at the right time at the right place to sell his produkt.
but i respect the work of the linux community more, cause they realy need to work hard to sell it to the people at the client market (most and best server already run with unix/linux)
the first real big vivtory was when the city administration of munich decided to change from windows to linux.

i also use linux but ONLY 4 server tasks where it belongs and comes from ...

but developming a game is not an easy task. i costs time and money. and if the there is no option of profit than there is no "porting" to different plattforms (mac, linux, ps2, xbox, ...)

and by all the respect, linux is far away from replacing windows/mac on the desktops.

jobs made a real good job with mac os x. kde/gnome is crab compared to that gui.

i think before gaming4linux is accepted, there should be a better gui and what is more important a standard developing api like directx !!!

never winter nights, quake, doom and civilization are examples that gaming4linux is possible. but that was done by freaks who like linux ...

well,.. i think suse linux has a real good GUI
and for people who are a little technic freaks: you can programm/create your desktop yourself, sepcially on distribution like debian.
about directx: i think it will never come out for linux, as i know it is also something grown by the hands of microsoft.
the xbox "OS" based on directX as i know, thats why the name Xbox
