I have positive feelings about it and I say whole EU should refer them as such.

Greece is opposing this because they know that in their part of Macedonia Greeks are still miniority and that by this act people there might develop strong secession feelings. They can't afford this since their part of Macedonia is very fertile land which is basically feeding Greece. I also must say that Greece is opressing non-Greeks in Macedonia for years.

Now seriously - every nation can call themselves however they want! We can call ourselves Sumeria and nobody can say "No, Sumeria was in the Middle East. You can't be Sumeria!" Well the real macedonians were an Illyrian and Thracian tribe but however i think after Alexander they were part of greek history

Since modern Macedonians assimilated significant portion of Illyrians and Thracian tribes they areequally "real" as anyone else.

Alexandar doesn't "belong" to anyone but to history of Europe. Macedonians were not Greeks, they were looked by the Greeks as barbarians and invaders and they also spoke a totally different language.

...But were helenised (not sure of the real term) and just like the Romans they became Greeks.
Anyway, if you think that only because the new invaders mixed their blood with the old inhabitants, makes the new ones same as the old - OK. I have nothing against (western) Bulgaria to be called "Descendants of the ancient Macedonian empire"! Hey, I have an idea - we're also Thracians, Illyrians, Byzantines etc. Cool! 8)

I think that if USA recognizes Macedonia as western Bulgaria they will solve their problems
with Greece and Macedonia will accept the name which historicaly most correct. 8)

Macedonians were not hellenized. Macedonians conquered Greece and ruled the for years. It was only the Romans who beat the Macedonians and "freed" Greece. Macedonians were always regarded as separate people from Greeks.

Also I think you should leave Macedonias alone. For years they are regarded as "Eastern Albania, Southern Serbia, North Greece or West Bulgaria". Time has come to change that.

@Nike: Try to be open minded a bit. History doesn't count. The people living there have the right to consider themseves as much as you have. It is time for all that mess to be forgotten on the Balkans. That's the only way to peace. We should look into the future only.

Here's an idea. Forget every soverign country and just become the United States of Europe. lol... Then you will not have any of these problems... You'll just say "I'm European." Then you can truely start the rise to try to become an equally powerful opponent to the US that the USSR was. :go:

We call ourselves Europeans and we feel as Europeans, like in US you call some people silly liberals or bigote christians, negros, Mexicans, Canadians etc. here are also few diferences.. Hopefully EU wil become something faaaaaaaar better than USA is :hello: economical power going aggainst ecology(and future), etc...
