Ok all you experts! Got my new computer with Windows XP. Am I going to have problems playing 1602 with XP? :)

Why don't you just install the thing and see what happens? I can confirm that I didn't have any trouble when installing the German and the French gold versions of 1602 A.D. on XP... :go:

The problem is more likely to be XP than 1602...

 Mama, I 've got the same problem, or at least I do when I can kick my siblings off the Editor so I can play. If you reeeeaaaallllyyy like all the videos, musci, etc., you'll have to run the program compatibility wizard to sorta "trick" the computer (or the CD) into thinking it's an older version, since 1602 wasn't exactly made for an XP.

My nemesis posted a topic about this on the Board a while back: http://www.sunflowers.de/discussion/Forum14/HTML/005063.html

Even with the PCW, the game will crash periodically, so if you can save, like every five minutes, it shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, just ditch the CD and play without the music, or the movies, or the cool voice effect . . .

If that works for you (or for anyone else) - fine. :) But according to Sunflowers, the compatibility mode should be switched off...

I'd suggest to do nothing at all - it is quite possible that Anno will run normally. The only precondition is that you should be logged in as an administrator when you install or play the game.

If there are permanent crashes, look when they occur: if the game shuts down as soon as a pirate attacks, the video and/or sound may be the problem. In that case, lower the hardware acceleration for your sound and graphic cards to zero and try again. It might also be that your WinXP only accepts an installation under C:\program files. ;) If that also does not help, try the compatibility mode - but switch it off again if you cannot solve the problem this way.

If the game crashes every 10 minutes, the savegame folder might be read only... ;)

Yep, can confirm this, too: when I tried to switch on the compatibility mode the game didn't start anymore! :beek:

it is normal for 1602 to crash every once in a while, not on xp. there are caces that old games won't work on new pc's. there too new!
