Okay...
I play in windows XP, but since i didn't manage to install the game the regular way (an error occurred in the middle of the installer something about an invalid ...something) I installed it the Win2000 way.

Now i try torun the game but when i try to run it form the Anno 1602.exe, it doesn't find the CD, and if i run it from the CD it doesn't find theSmackW32.dll which i find in the directory...

Someone help, i want to start playing 1602 again.

PS. I don't have Gold edition or Köningsedition just the old plain 1602.

PPS. Windowsupdate doesn't work (for some reason) on my PC.

Welcome to the board, Wermillious. :)

Which directions did you follow when you installed Anno? And do you have the German or another Basic version? Did you also install the *.reg file which is necessary for that installation? And do you have the CD inserted when you try to play Anno?

I think there is either no registration of the game at all, or the CD-ROM drive is not correct in your registry. You may check that within the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ANNO1602. ;)

I followed the instructions on the Anno 1602 homepage, about installation on windows 2000.
I have the english basic 1602.
Yes i did install the regkey.
Yes i have the cd in the drive when i try to run the game.

And where can i find the key you talked about?

And where can i find the key you talked about?
Start -> Run. Type in the box "regedit". Find the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ANNO1602
Change the value for CDROM_DIR (replace with the CDROM drive from that you installed the game)

a freeware download from the homepage of the full game would be a start - its well passed being a saleable product with newer versions and the price is not worth the sales hassle.

If the company made it freely available full version download even 100MB as a zipped version that would solve these CD ROM issues.

ok, monstercrash we get your idea, but it's enough that it's been discussed in one thread, don't you think? ;)

Yes. And I guess Wermillious (please use cut and paste if a nickname is too complicated for you to write) already solved it. ;)

Did you really check your ebay site? Since December 24, someone wants to sell his game: here (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11053&item=8156940536&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW). So, do your homework first before you start senseless discussions here.
