OK so I was impressed with all these marvelous screenshots of castles & cities & buildings, but now I'm in the game and I can't view my cities. I'm stuck in the 'world' view. I tried double clicking on my cities to view them but it doesn't work. What's the point of those buildings if you can't see them?

The views that you are probably referring to occur in battles. You only see villages, farms, castles and such when you are attacking or defending them. When you are in the world view (normal) mode, you can only see your towns at a distance. Towns will undergo minor changes with the construction of different buildings, such as the addition of walls, larger castles, etc, but you will not generally see thses changes up close.

OK so the only time I'll get to see my cities up close is in battle mode. Will that give me enough time to appreciate the graphics of my cities, or are the battles too fast to have enough time to scroll around the city and watch it for a bit?

This was asked beforehand right when the game came out, answer is still the same.

The screenshots showing the cities up close without military units were promotional material only. Something that was meant to drum up interest in the product. Much like an advertisement selling cologne and picturing a scantly clad female holding it.

If you are looking at a city-building game, this is not it. SimCity 4 may be a better choice. If, however, you are looking for a game where you attempt to conquer Medieval Europe through war, diplomacy and espionage, then this is an apt choice.

@Sir Turylon:
I don't think this is just promotional, because we knew before the release that we won't use the battleview beside fighting and it is still part of the game.
With your words it sounds like it is a crime to do what you promised your fans.

I agree Picotrain that this game is set something on the lines of MTW, and Is better.

But what makes it evenmore better is the buildings when you come down to earth.

I cannot see that Sunflower have broken any promise's,you have wood cutters cutting down tree's and people going about there day'le lives, so whats the grudge.

Would like to see them run however when a troop of knights come beating down on them.

if the up close city view mode is not the default then you've all been ripped off and I'm not buying the game. thanks losers.

Pericles, you've obviously missed the point of RTS gaming. It's not to look at cities, there are games like SimCity for that. In fact, that's all that happens in SimCity... you build houses and stadiums and stuff. It requires very little intellect, so it may be perfect for a non-RTS gamer.
