How to support Crusades?
Sometimes Pope wants one of my Marshalls to lead Crusade. Are there any benefits of doing it? I know when I don't agree he excommunicates my kingdom but I haven't noticed any disadvantages of excommunication so far.
Is it possible to support crusade with troops (not with Marshalls)?

1. Excommunicated catholics can be targets of crusades!
2. Excommunicated catholics have a bad relation with all other catholics.
3. You can support your crusade by sending an own army along with the crusader.
4. Successful pillaging of enemy towns is extremely profitable because you get a hell lot of money. And one or the other puppet king down there isn't too worse either. Especially when your king is the leader of the crusade, because the province will be annexed. :go:

When my marshall was chosen as a leader, he went out of the town....and didn't move anyfurther...after a while, his army vanished somehow, and I could control my marshall again. So I dissagreed to lead anymore crusades, and now I'm excommunicated, but all my relations (even with papacy) are still at 'good' or 'harmonious'.

I have similiar situation but with one exception. My marshal's army was stored in camp not vanished. In my case I have made peace with kingdom crusade was called against and that's why crusader has stopped doing his duty.

Good advice:
When you are asked for crusade, don't refuse it. However I never suffered any serious harm from excomunication ( one more thing that might be done better), it is very easy to get your marshall back:
Send your marshall to the crusade but sign a peace with that country after some time. Then your marshall will be yours again

No army. Just the marshall. But when he conquers a province you get approx. 700 gold.

When you pillage the province you get more than 10000 gold. :go:

but when you sign a peace with the "target" kingdom before your marshall reaches it, you get him back... with crusader army...AFAIR

I don't like leading a crusade, lose my army...with a chance of losing my marshall aswell.
The 700 gold doesn't make up for that, as it will cost me at least 1000 gold to hire a new marshall, not buying any new troops...

The 10000 gold sounds nice, but u have 2 wait if he's going to pillage the countryside, cause I can't control the crusade, can I?

I just find it annoying that the "show marshal" button dissapears when he becomes a crusader. The only way to find him is by going to the political view and checking the locations of all the crusading armies at that time... a big pain. I like to see my marshal giving a little taste of God's wrath the the heathens!

you can move to any of your marshalls by double click at him :go: it's faster than moving to "show marshal" icon

By the way, do you people pillage the province or do you make it your vassal?

Depends on how much I hate the targeted kingdom and whether or not my crusading marshal has "Enforcer."

How do I follow the crusaders raiding another town?I sent my marshal following them and tried to attack the town together but I was not allowed to join.Somehow the crusaders lost and retreat to plunder the villages.I attacked the town and won.A message asked if I should hand over the key or something to the crusades and I clicked yes but nothing happened as the town still owned by the enemy. So I attacked once more and conquered it myself.
