Welcome to the board, Mugen. :)
Have a look at the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ANNO1602; you can adjust the CD-ROM drive there (amend the drive name of CDROM_DIR). :)
Changed that already and the cd is inserted. I did everything I had to do to get it to work normally.
Are you logged in as administrator?
Actually, it works when I don't update it to the latest version, but if I don't do that, the game crashes after a while.
I made an iso out of the updated game and burnt it hoping it'd work then, but it still says please insert cd etc.

"Latest Version"? What exactly did you install? And what exact Game version do you have?
The crashes can probably be avoided if you lower the hardware acceleration of your graphic and sound cards to zero.

That was unnecessary! He is a user, who bought the game and is now asking for help....your "hints" are at the wrong place here!!!
I had that probleme too, but after I restarted ma computer it vanished, so I canīt tell anything about why it happened and why it did not happen again...

I think this comment was totally uncalled for and in bad taste!

hi folks the usuall whiners. How are we today ?
Well ive been quite i emailed sunflowers and guess what i got my ticket but it doesnt work it seems no one at sunouttatheirbuttssunflowers is going to respond - so i go back onto lurker mode for another week while i wait longer for their yes or no response to 1602 AD freeware suggestion.
Ignoring emails - its not a good way to conduct a good customer service department
Why don't you just buy one from E-Bay and quit whining about it?

For that..it is necessary to have a "good consumer"...and you are not!

I too shall weigh in on this statement. Monstercash, since you have neither bought nor own the game you are not a customer. If you were purchasing the game you would be a customer, but you are wanting it for free, thus you cannot be considered a "customer". You only want a handout, you cannot expect them to respond to you. If you do not like the way they are handling this, then just go away. Your whining is not going to change their mind.
When you become a customer, come back and complain about their customer service!

answer emails from potential customers - i may hav brought the game but i wont be stating that here (actually i have but will keep pursuing this freeware suggestion) all they have to do is answer emails ? i think the answer will be no but offical would be proferred.
Big company gets arrogant - they might then get less people buying their new products
