View Full Version : Computerplayers not very bright?

I've become a little addicted to this great game, but the intelligence of the computerplayers is not very high is it?
Last time I played I invaded an AI's Island and built 3 cannon towers immediatly. The AI sent his forces in a straight line march column right at my towers and they were killed one after the other as they got in range :bash: .
BUT:
obviously the real fun of the game is making my city progress, thats what I like the most.

What do others think? Is the AI IQ high, medium or low?

Hello,

Yes, I agree that the AI could be improved a little.
But as you already mentioned, 1602 is a game with more economical features

Enjoy it

Welcome to the board, Master Jakel. :halloha:

I also think the AI is not very intelligent - and it cheats to survive. However, the game is seven years old, and maybe I am judging too hard.

But you are right: Anno is not a military game (sometimes, I find that making war is rather boring), but an economical one. And sometimes, you can even find puzzle szenarios which are very hard to solve...

You can go to http://www.annopool.de/ to find player made scenarios; many of them are more challenging than the original scenarios.

I think Master Jakel means the original AI, not the modified AI by some scenario -creators

So it is not just me that thinks AI is low

Thanks for the link to player scenarios, I will check it out. Also the ones that have modified AI, that souinds fun :-)

I think the scenarios did not amend or modify the AI; it behaves almost the same as in the "normal" scenarios. But in fan made scenarios, the AI can be set to be more aggressive in the beginning to make it harder for you... ;)

I don't think there is anything that can be done to make the AI smarter in his battle strategy. As Roadrunner says it's possible to make them more aggressive in the beginning of a player made scenario, but after that their building and financial decisions
soon show them to be the idiots they are. How many times have you noticed the baddly placed buildings on the AI's islands? How many times, no matter how much money you give them in the beginning, have you seen them squander a fortune and then muddle along with cheats at the $5,000 to $10,000 level. Soon they are unable to build any towers or defensive walls.
I'm currently working on making a scene where the AI at least has a chance to beat you. I hope to have it ready in a few more days. In the meantime, Master Jakel, I suggest downloading "King of the World" from the Anno-Pool. It has a difficult beginning at least.
BTW, see the thread on this site about "Multiplayer Madness". The AI may be stupid & boring but a human opponent is another thing all together!

Well, as far as multiplayer goes I should soon get on the net in my apartment, īcan't wait getting my butt kicked in this game

Welcome to the board, Easter Bunny. :halloha:

I am also a slow player - but that's ok in Anno. The computer players will (in "normal" scenarios) not disturb you as long as you are not prepared for them.

But... you never completed a game in Anno? - You are speaking about continuous game, aren't you? Well, that one does not have an end... And that's why I do not like it very much. I'd recommend to try the scenarios (begin with "After a Long Trip", that's the easiest one, the next level will be available after you bet it). And if you have questions... you are welcome.

Ah , i play some scenarios too , but i want to start with nothing in them. I want to raise a city all by my own  Ill try what u said now RoadRunner maby that is something for me :hello: . I have to say that Anno is one of the best strategy game ever. But let uss not get off topic now :go:

Would Anno be an fun STRATEGI game if the AI's gone wacko on u every time u wanted to build an big city or something? No , they arent really the real fight machine , but the game had been more like an action game if the computers had been smarter (more agressive).

I know this topic is a few days stale, but I don't think their smart enough. They are ok. But below the standards of "good". I don't start wars much. I'd wrather build up a city first. Though I do like to storm an AI's island with a bunch of troops and destroy his entire city building by building, I think it'd be a little more fun if they were just a little smarter. Not too much, but enough so that they can defend themselves a little better. Like sending all their troups toward the docks...why? Ships can pick them off easily from there. And I don't play slowly. This causes problems for me when the game lasts too long( like shortages) but I like to build quickly and advance my people as soon as possible.
