If I go to the packs dir I only see files like defs.pak

Should I open these files? If yes, with what software?

you need specific software to unpack those files. The programm is called KoH PakMan and it's created by Tempest

it's available here in forums.

btw, this program is not official BSS nor Sunflowers nor EA program. All modding and editing can make the game run worse (what actually didn't happen to me)

I just think I should inform you about this.
