I just noticed that there is a remake of the old "Privateer" game. You will find it under http://priv.solsector.net/announcements.htm the game is open source and the download is free (but 180 MB).

It looked interesting, but I was unable to determine if it is an online gameplay game or a game you could download and play as singleplayer. I am not much into online or multiplayer games.

I am not 100% sure, but I think it is - up to now - a single player game only, and not an online game. I found this in the FAQ (http://priv.solsector.net/faq.htm):

Where's the multiplayer?

Some parts of the Privateer Remake are depending on what the guys at Vegastrike are doing (the Privateer Remake uses the Vegastrike game engine) so does multiplayer. The Vegastrike team works hard to get it in, but unfortunately it will last some more time, don't think in weeks or even month this feature is far away...


I downloaded the game, but did not install it yet, as today or tomorrow the new Anno 1602 Easter contest will start. But after that, I'll certainly try it...
