First off, I'd just like to say, "hi." Hi, I'm Kane. I've been playing 1602 for a while now, and been reading these forums for a month or so. I'm having a problem in the game...

I was making an island for Tobbacco and Alcohol, but whenever I placed the buildings, they just deactivated themselves. I tried reactivating them, demolishing, and replacing them, but they just stayed deactivated. Can anyone help me out?

Also, on my housing island, sometimes my people demand a market, even though there is one right next to them... Could anyone help me on this, too?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Kane, and welcome to the board!

When you say "deactivated", does it mean the building is set into sleep mode, and the rotating "Z" appears on top of it, without you doing anything with it? This would be the first time that I hear something like that...

If the rotating sign does not appear, you should perhaps check if the building is full, because then the workers will no longer come out to collect the raw material. And if the building is full you should check for a road to a market or warehouse, so that the finished product can get collected by the cart drivers.

About your people demanding a market when there is one right next to them, do you observe this for a longer time, and does it settle on its own, or do you rebuild the market and it's gone? Also this does sound very strange...

Welcome to the board, Kane. :halloha:

Which version of the game do you have? Maybe there is a patch available which can solve this problem...

And do these things happen at built-in maps or scenarios, or do you use self-created islands and scenarios, maybe with a lot of production facilities and inhabitants on it?

And... you do not use any additional programs or cheats, do you?

And... you do not use any additional programs or cheats, do you?

I wouldn't dream of cheating in any fashion.

Well, when I first wrote that, I was getting ready for bed, and didn't give a lot of detail.

I don't cheat, and I don't know what version I have. And I used self made islands on a self made map. My uncle simply burned all the files he had for this game on a CD and gave it to me, and I just moved the files from the CD back onto my system.

When the building deactivates, there is no rotating 'z', but when I click on the building, the "Deactivation Button" is highlighted. This happened on an island that had nothing else on it, it was a fresh, untouched island. Although, I did have an island that had many of the same plantations and workshops. I tried demolishing the building, and replacing it in the same spot, and it didn't fix it. Then, I demolshed it, and places it a few tiles away, and it was fine. I think I ran into a glitchy tile. Also, the warehouse had only about 2 tons of the finished product in it when I first noticed it wasn't activated.

The Market problem is along the same lines; in some places they just refuse to accept there is a Market right across the street, and in others they are fine with it. This happened on an island with about ~12000 people on it.

I hope this extra detail helps. This is VERY irritating.

... This is VERY irritating.

I agree with you.
If you like send me a savegame or the scenario you created and I'll have a look on it

With 12.000 people you could have run into an overflow problem in some data structure. 1602 is not smart about overflows; we have had a few other cases like this one, although with different symptoms. It is also possible that the self-made islands have a glitch somewhere and produce unexpected results.

Difficult to say. If you don't mind and know how to do it, you can send me a zipped savegame and I will have a closer look.

 I'm not the expert these other veteran annoists are but isn't it possible that this statement could be the root of the problem?

B.T.W. Welcome to the board :go:

Well... interesting savegame, I must say.

All are self-made islands, square, consisting of 2 tile types only. An attempt to break the records? Not particularly nice looking but that can't be the root of the problem.

As I said earlier, I guess it is an overflow problem. You have most likely exceeded the maximum number of houses in one city or on one island. I can't tell for sure but I guess it's that. When you click on a particular citizen's house the game says it's a pioneer's house, and they demand a market, although (as you state) a market is near by. Perhaps you have too many citizen houses, let's see... 6780 citizens, 15 per house, gives 452 houses. I have never seen a game with that many citizen houses.

As I said, I can't tell for sure. It could be a completely different problem. It is a very unusual savegame, indeed.

[edit]: I forgot to mention that on your main island many markets have lost their white flag, as if the game had lost their assignment to the white player. When you click on them, they behave quite normal though. Never seen that before...

Thanks. I thought it might be an overflow type problem, too. Thanks for taking a look. I noticed that problem with the Markets, as well.

Thanks again.

Hi Kane,

I've got your savegame and had had a look on it.
Unfortunately there are only big squares on it with empty, green islands.

Reading what Henyr says I assume you've discovered an old but well known bug .
