Cossacks? This is my first post in a while. So, tell me what you think of Cossacks: European Wars and its expansion packs. I've rediscovered it and am enjoying it immensely. I'm also looking forward to Cossacks II (if it ever comes out).

My impression of Cossacks wasen't that good and i chose not to buy it because i found that the control of the units wasen't particulary good - often they ( the units ) seemed to have a "will of their own" and i hate that ! - when i play these types of game i DEMAND 120% control over the units i.e if i tell'em to stand and fight they do as they are told

Nice game, but a little bit complicated with the 6 resources etc. But the opportunity to control 1000 units is very tempting.

I found that it improved tenfold with the "Art of War" Expansion pack (or "Back to War", for that matter, except that BTW isn't much different from AOW combined with the original, just a few more nations and units)

Mmmmn, Ive played it a time, but i think it was a hard game to master. But it liked this game, when playing with friends on the lan, then we had great wars. And i lost every time.

It's one of the BEST strategy games ever created!!! A possibility to control thousands of units at once is fantastic. Also, it is the only game concerning 17 and 18 centuries, when there were many bloody wars and great battles to simulate. Unique architecture is also a very strong side of Cossacks. It's definetly not true that control over units is difficult: you can make formations and to give them orders you want - it's so simple.

I think, you also shouldn't forget American Conquest - there are many nice things in it too.:king:

Cossacks II will surely be even better. Try this: www.cossacks2-net.de (http://www.cossacks2-net.de) As it's not an official site, but you can find something here8)

I played Cossacks and the "Back to War" expansion about two years ago, and even tried the multiplayer side of the game for a short time. At first, this game seemed very good because of the sheer number of units that it was possible to control and have on the battlefield at one time. It was also set in the 17th-18th centuries, which was somewhat innovative because very few games back then tried to cover this particular time period.

After a month or two though, the game quickly became boring, because it eventually just turned into another "build and rush" type of game, like the Age of Empires/Age of Kings line. It also lacked some important features that are now being included in many battlefield RTS types of games, such as the importance of morale, possibility for retreat/rout, terrain advantages or disadvantages (like for hills, rivers, forests, etc.), and the ability to deploy reinforcements and/or withdraw injured or depleted units. Cossacks also did not have much of an economic system, except for simple resource gathering and buying tech upgrades.

"Cossacks" is a great game as well as is it's direct sequel "American conquest". Negative point for me is that all the battles are only for multiplayer as well as many scenarios.

I am looking forward to play Cossacks 2. I just hope that i'll be able to fight Waterloo in SP.
