anybody here plays warhammer, or simular fantasy table top games like D&D, LOTR, ...

I love playing those (also the computer games like dark omen, shadow of the horned rat)
:go:

I don't play warhammer but I paint the figures... does that count?

I have some Warhammer 40,000 eldar figures, but I can hardly say I play any. My friends are too lazy to point and so, so never did play any really. I like the warhammer universe though. Would like to try the Warhammer RPG some day.

You mean Warhammer online? I think it will be great if you look at the screens. and if you like the settings you should consider reading some books of the
black library (http://www.blacklibrary.co.uk/ ). These are novels based on the worlds of warhammer and warhammer 40K. shame you don't play the games they are really fun, altough eldar are a hard race to master ;)

Well, no, I mean the pen and paper RPG. Warhammer Online might be interesting too though, will have to look more at in when it's closer to completion. I don't think there's much info on that game right now.

Well, I think they kinda nerfed eldars in the 3rd edition. It's not the same army as the one I started collecting. By this I mean that they aren't the same elite army they used to be. There used to be no problem creating a 1500 points army with 18 harlequins. And I actually won with it.

Well, I sometimes play AD&D, though it has been some time now. I like the second edition much more than the third edition. I guess three's not my charm.

I hated the second :D
The third was a blessing in my opinion.

I agree. Eldar got screwed this edition and really needed to be redone.

I don't know how they played before, but now they are so delicate. it's the same in warhammer : very powerful magic and superior shooting, but don' t go in for close combat or you'll lose and that is a shame
it makes it one of the hardest armies to play in my opinion other than say chaos or space marines

Can anyone explain what warhammer is?

You paint like medieval or sci-fi military models and play on a table...

Well, they used to be more specialist. From the beginning more like a close combat army. The hard enemies being tyrannids I think. With the new rules they don't seem better than others at closecombat, yet they have to get within 12" to use their shuriken catapults (shuriken catapults used to go 24". Like a bolter in every sense except better armor penetration and following fire).

So now it is really hard to make an eldar army that's good from a distance, and they don't rock at close combat as much any more.

I agree about the eldar jorghan, and the story behind the Tau I find really ridiculous. They're the youngest race in the galaxy and yet they have technology that can easily wipe out the eldar who are suppose to be many many many thousands of years more advanced then anyone. I found the introduction of the Necrons pretty stupid as well. Realistically, how can a force that simply repairs itself not take over everything in sight?

Eldar may be small in number but they should be a fast moving powerhouse.
