View Full Version : Can't start KoH!
Bouight the game from Paradox. Installed it. Can't use it.
Reason:
When I launch the game I directly get "Runtime Error!" + a pathname to a temp directory.
Notes:
I've tried with all (non essential" processes turned off.
I've uninstalled + manually deleted ALL keys from the registry.
I've found no viruses, no spyware.

Hi :bday: What are your system specifications? What operating system and service pack are you using?
P4 3.2ghz
1 GB RAM
Windows XP sp1
DirectX 9c (the one that came with KoH)
it can't be casued by system reqs.
My comp is much weaker than game requires and it runs fine (just a bit slower)
I really have no idea what could cause it. Note exactly what are the messages and maybe then Webmaster or Angryminer could help you more.
thanx for answering Elvain! Ialmost thought no1 gave a da*m...
Everytime I try to start KoH I get:
"Runtime Error!
Program C:\....(swedish pathnames for Docs & settings etc etc).......\Temp\AAZYBZAI\YBJZZYQQQ.exe
abnormal program termination"
Everytime I try I get different endings in the path....

in which directory do you have Knights of Honor?
first I installed it in c:\games\knights of honor
it didnt start (see earlier comment)
uninstalled, manually deleted all registry entries that were left, then installed at std:
c:\program\black sea studios\knights of honor
same error (but everytime the temp subdirectory changes, and also the the x.exe** file)
**= everything from a.exe to qwwqqxxyy.exe
(not 100% sure about the speeling due to the fact that Im 700km away from my home PC - live in malmö, spend 3days/week working in Stockholm).
I noticed that the temp files dissapear as soon as I click "ok" on the error msg (see earlier comment)

I read this thread some times but I don't think I can really help.
However, this is what I think:
1. The error didn't occur on other systems yet.
2. On your system the error is reproducable.
3. It's a runtime error.
From my experience I guess outdated software causes the problem.
So what you should check is:
1. Any Antivirus-Software, Anti-Spyware-Software or other malicious software should be temporarily deactivated for testing purposes.
2. Check for current versions of software. You propably want to install Windows Xp Sp 2. Also check the version of the grafic- and sound-drivers.
But all-in-all I'm somewhat clueless. But it's the nature of runtime-errors that they are hardly debugable.

"Runtime Error!
Program C:\....(swedish pathnames for Docs & settings etc etc).......\Temp\AAZYBZAI\YBJZZYQQQ.exe
abnormal program termination"
That's an error from the copy protection executable and is usually caused by a virus, trojan, spyware or other malicious software running on a system.
What should be helpful:
- Use a current antivirus tool to clean the system.
- Make sure the system is completely clean from malicious software - if in doubt, rather reinstall your Windows.
- Update Windows via Windows Update (e.g. install Service Pack 2 and all important updates for XP).
