First off I'd like to thank the modders (especially Elvain and Angryminer) for increasing the difficulty and making an already good game even better.
I'm wondering why the AI never buys exotics! I've even given them territory with the exotic purchased, and then it goes right away, never to come back! I'm using my own variation of both GOG and Holy Rome, but the computer never buys any exotics even though they have admiralities, and thus never get any kingdom advantages. The exotics upkeep is set as in GOG in econst.in2 and also under exotics.in2 . Is there a way to make them buy exotics? It would help them get advantages and thus be better!
Oh, and I found a way to make the computer attack alot more: The upkeepmarshal cost in econst.in2 has to be set much lower, even down to 10 for each level. Of course, this enables the player to purchase more too...but that doesn't mean the player would have to have more marshals. I usually just have two.
Also, increasing the population growth rate under ;population in econst.in2 up to about 400, and bumping up the tax rate even higher to 100 for normal and 200 for tax4 seems to boost the AI's income big time. (effectively helping them cheat and thus enabling them to purchase more, build more and be tougher) Then all I do is leave my tax on "no tax" and set it to about 10 in econst.in2.
Thusfar I've found the only way to make the computer 'harder' is to help them 'cheat.' Thus I boost stats for them and then leave things alone for me. (Sort of like the way things work in the civilization games.) It would be nice if "hard" mode meant that the computer gained income twice as fast and had other advantages over the player.
