Hi,
I get a crash to desktop everytime i reach a certain point in the game. I'm playing abbasids, and everytime i load my saved game it crashes shortly after. It doesn't actually matter what actions i perform, or even if i don't do anything, it still crashes at the same point. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as the game is completely unplayable like this.

My specs

P4 2.4
512k RD RAM
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro / 9700 (128mb Graphics card)
Winxp Home sp2
Creative Soun Blaster Audigy 2

I have all the latest drivers and updates on my system. I do think it is a bug with the game as it crashes at a certain point, not during a certain action. If u require more info then i would be happy to oblige.

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Iprobably won't be the one to help you (though I'd like to), but you say that the game crashes at certain point.

Describe what happens before the game crashes and the help would be easier then

well nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. I mean it just crashes to desktop and the resolution on my desktop is the same as the game until i restart the computer. But nothing happens ingame. The only thing i can tell is that i have played through my first caliph's lifetime and my second one is aged.

I have this problem occasionally as well, posted it on a different forum about bugs i have noticed in this forum. But when it crashes for me same thing, no popup error message, just crashed to desktop. This happens to me more often in battles than not. Recomend just saving frequently and rebooting after crash as windows goes haywire after it crashes a program with memory manager.

Hello,

I am as well noticing during gameplay random timeframe crashes. For me it usually happens as I am scrolling around keeping tabs on usually 3-4 of my generals while they are moving into positioning for combat. Its totally random on my game and never during combat though, just while I am watching the provincial screen usually....there may be battles ocurring at the time since I do not always lead them, but normally its on the main view of the world.

I have also been getting crashes to desktop every couple of hours or so. No warnings no error messages. I have not managed to discern any sort of pattern. It is quite annoying but I love the game too much to pay that much attention to it.

Everytime I start a battle my game crashes to desktop. My computer meets all the requirements and i have the most up to date drivers. Both me and a friend bought this game because I love strategy games. I don't like spending money on a product that doesn't work. A lot of posts on this forum say just to save often and that it happens. That is unacceptable. When u ship a game it should work and we shouldn't have to put up with this. This is my first game with this company and will probably be my last. Me and 3 of my friends are returning our games to the PX where we bought them (we are soldiers overseas) and have talked to the manager. He says that he will be pulling the game from the shelves. :bash:

Mine too. Came to this forum for the sole purpose of finding out why it CTD's. Mine's during battle as well. No warning. Just won't let me attack farther---crash.
Up to date drivers, machine's well beyond the specs for the game.
Hate to do all that work and have to stop at a certain point simply because the game's buggy and crashes. :bash:

I've seen the very same thing happen to me a couple times now and it's quite annoying to me as well. No error messages or anything just all a sudden game closes on me without any message. I've checked all my drivers and they are current and having the U.S. version it hasn't been patched since released in the U.S. I haven't seen any problems with it effecting my desktop screen size or anything and probably cause I run the game as the same size as the desktop.

Oh wow, you need help. I applaud your attitude

This issue should'nt really bother you too much to complain to a company how they're not perfect. What game have you played where you did NOT have to download a patch of some sort? 99% games out there do have a patch available, usually because of certain issues here or there, or even because of unbalancing. Except console games, but even those have issues. If you think you are going to return a game after this slight issue, then you should return every game you bought and never play one again, this stuff does happen. I'd like to see you make a game :silly: then maybe you won't cry about it as much. Anyways, just save everytime a big event happens until the programmers figure out what is going wrong and fix it.

I have had this game about a month. No problems whatsoever. Then, about a week ago, it started the crash to desktop thing. Once, during strategic overview, and then twice during
battles. That is annoying, especially when you are about to win.
I really like this game however and want to keep playing. Of course I saved a lot to reload, but let's find out whats causing this and get it fixed. Could it be I'm running antivirus programs in the background? I don't want to shut this game down, but I still have Medieval Totalwar and I will go back to playing that if have to....as if anyone at the developers cares

For months, my computer would restart the game randomly when I saved a game. That was the most frustrating - I knew I had to save often to be sure that in a next crash I wouldn't lose my previous half-hour of playing, but also I knew that saving could cause a crash. It happened with the autosave too.

Currently, I don't have this problem that often anymore. I don't have a clue how. What I do do, is setting scrollock on and pausing my game for some time to let my pc 'think' a bit before I save the game, so that a overload can't be the problem.

I do experience these random crashes to desktop too - but only when I play for some time.

The only recommendations I can give are:
*Disable EVERYTHING unuseful background program. Antivirus, firewall (be sure to shut down your internet connection then!) and more.
*have a clean pc, without spyware or malware
*use the disk defragmenter frequently
*keep enough free HD space / virtual ram
*save often and while your pc is not 'working'

If you still experience many crashes, like me, it would wise to install the _illegal_ no-intro patch. It's frustrating to see all movies for 5 seconds everytime you restart KoH after a crash.
