Does anyone have know what happens to your economy if a rural area is destroyed? Equally, is there any point in destroying enemy rural areas?

And do they re-generate? or can you rebuild them? I can't seem to find this info.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, DelaFrontera! :halloha:
When a rural area is destroyed the destroyer recieves some money (in case of a plundered farm also food) and the rural area ceases to produce anything. That means when all farms are plundered the town won't be able to produce a lot of food anymore. That can be a great advantage when you want to starve an enemy out of his castle.

Thanks for the reply.

Question still though - after having played a while I have not seen a rural area regenerate.

So a question about strategy - if I want to take a province and make it part of my kingdom, should I destroy the rural areas as part of the strategy of weakening the main town? If I do, I will eventually take over a town that has no rural areas, and therefore can't really produce its own food!

Has anyone played long enough to see a rural area regenerate?

Thanks for further clarification, if you can.

Yes, they do. Didn't seem like it took all that long to me.

Yes the regenerate. It might take awhile, but the always do. Really, would not waste my time plundering. Just go right for the castle. You will probably need 2 armys if they are swordsmen or somthing. But if you happen to get a full army of tutonic knights, you can take them without trouble.

They take a while to regenerate. You can always speed up the game to see how much time it takes. I found that when you have multiple enemy armies in one province, plundering about, happiness in that province decreaces a lot. If it is already low then you might have multiple rebel groups and enemy armies swarming your province! It can turn out to be quite a mess.

PS. I wonder, De La Frontera, where do your name comes from?

How do you speed up the game?

With the " + " key. You can speed it up to 8x

Frontera is Spanish for Frontier, or Border.

Many towns and villages in Southern Spain are called "(Name X) de la Frontera" - like Arcos de la Frontera or Jerez de la Frontera.

This is because during the time when the Christian kings took Southern Spain from the Moors, it was a many year (300 year or so) process. Lots of towns and villages became "de la Frontera", or "on the Frontier" in English, after the Spanish took them. Then the Frontier moved after a war 10 years later, and the next town 20 kilometers down the road became "de la Frontera."

Seemed like a good avatar name for this game...

you can shorten the time of regeneration by assingning a builder in the province

Did NOT know that! Another good use! With GoG mod, I have actually made use of upgraded Builders... one conquered town was really superb for making trade goods, and with the right basic buildings and a two star builder, I had 27 workers in that town. Really burned thru all the slots. Too bad I had to 'fire' him to make room for the three free marshals my Baby-Machine Queen generated. :swordfigh

My opening strat invariably involves taking my first marshal with 3 peasant squads and heavily pillaging to generate early funds; after two battles, I can earn a skill point to put towards the Plunder skill. More and more money for me! I would rather do that in the early game than tie myself up with city conquering and rebel management.

That may seem like a good idea but in the beginning of the game the 10 gold per turn for the marshal can be quite expensive.

I'm not sure what you mean... the initial marshall is given to you for free. The only way I can eliminate that 10 gold per turn expense is by firing the marshal, but if I suddenly need him, I have to blow 1000 gold to hire him. So, to truly make that first marshal a waste of money, I have spend 100 turns with him doing nothing. But, I am at war almost immediately, generating 1000+ per plunder (more so once the plunder skill goes up), which lets me build buildings for my economy (or hire traders, depending on the mod). The only way it is a losing proposition is if the guy I go to war with somehow develops a big army while I am working on my economy, and the way to avoid that is choose your enemy wisely!
