Is there a listing somewhere of what the different types of governors do for a province? I got that the cleric can remove nostalgia, convert a population's religion, and add books...but I have no idea what the others do, even after experimenting with them. I presume a merchant adds wealth, a builder increases build speed, and a landlord adds food...but I do not see any of this. Do they have no effect at 0 level?

Thanks.

At 0 lvl they still give bonuses, just not big ones. The more educated they are the bigger bonuses you will get. I think all of what you think the do is correct, exept landlords don't add food storage, but boost the amount of food you can produce and also ration food during sieges.

merchant makes the town more wealthy, so you get more money from town taxes (1 gold at level1 I guess)
builder adds number of workers (1 per star)
landlord speeds up production of food in town, makes sieges last longer and I think that also increases the speed of new population comming

Unless you upgrade them (especially beneficial with GoG mod and also Holy Rome?), Merchants, LL's, and Builder's really are not worth the space. However, a builder that gives you three extra workers really helps move things along, and +3 gold (or more) per time increment also makes a merchant worth pursuing. That said, I would love it if someone could clarify a point: My Merchant governor's city is good for, say, 11 gold. My Merchant who is trading is good for, say, 32 gold. Over what time span do I generate 11 gold, and generate 32 gold? If the time span is identical, it seems that it is never worth using a merchant as a governor. Thoughts?

Thanks

Jonathan

I agree with Frey/Jonathon. I started using GoG today but even with the trade routes no longer out of control it seems that a merchant is much better on a trade route than governing unless there simply are no routes available (or, in GoG only, you have no trade goods...but even then because of the fact that it is expensive to recall a gov I cannot recommend using them).

Based on the +1 gold/build/food per level, it seems my original doubt is true...level 0's give nada.

That's exactly what I want to know!

Well, I never use merchants for anything other than trading with other nations. Never use them as govenors.

All this stuff *is* in the manual and on the "Featured" section of the website, plus some of this is explained in the in-game "Royal Library" tab...

I'm almost 100% sure that both GoG *and* HR have trade-good based trading rather than just kingdom-size based trade.

In vanilla game there is in fact almost no need for merchants-governors. The time is - of course - identical.

In HR mod there is good to use merchants as governors in the beggining of the game, untill you have 2 trade goods. Since you have them you have more benefits from sending him on trade route.

both HR and GoG have trade system based on economical power of trading country rather than political.
GoG trade income goes from number of trade goods and merchants
HR trade income goes from number of trade goods, merchants and also markets so also development of country plays some role

i never use anything other than merchants to trade with other countrys and generals, the bonuses that you recieve for the govenors is worthless, or at least worthless when u have 70 provinces.

Well, I don't know about the original game but in GoG they do.

or when a foreign spy kills your king before having any heir or if foreign spy would initiate revolt of your marshalls
