1. My first question is: How come when you capture a spy in your court sometimes you know what country he is from but others you don't and have to torture, release, or kill him? I hate losing KP from torturing them but I wanna know who they are from.

2. Sometimes when I take a marshal prisoner it says "we have cught an enemy spy". Does this mean they are a spy of another court that was hired in that country as a marshal?

1. Sometimes they need a little "encouragement" :whip: to tell you their secrets. Sometimes your couterspying  is so good that you don't need them to tell you anything.

2. Sounds like you have it bang on :go:

1. there is also another posibility:
check relations with other countries and then release him. Where the relation have changed, it is his homeland

2. I think that it is just a bug. Prisoners are simply announced as spies....

But then you can't demand tribute, kill him, or declare war on the spying country.

@1. I think its alot more fun to torcher him.

@2. No, actually I think they are spies. One time I had showspies on, and I captured an enemy marshal and it said "we have caught a spy" and it showed he had yellow around his name. So he was definantly a spy. But I have had a sound bug that when I click on a marshal or order him to do somthing he makes the sound like when your torchering a prisoner.

I think my favorite part is that even if you don't know what nationality the spy is, every other nation seems to know. Case in point: One of my long term merchants was discovered as a spy when I finally got around to leaving a five star spy doing counter-intelligence work. I had no clue what nationality he was. Tortured him once. No luck. Did it again, just to see what would happen. He still didn't squeal, but one of the other countries sent me a message saying how happy they were that I captured (and I think, tortured) a spy from Italy! I wanted to reply back "How the heck did YOU find out?". Because torturing the guy was only earning me negative kingdom points with no results, I let him go and ANOTHER country sent me a missive saying they were glad that I was so willing to release the spy from Italy. Did EVERYONE in Europe know where this guy was from except for me? Did he babble during all his merchant trips? :-)

 That is really funny. Mabye instead of torturing him you should ask him nicely. Almost forgot, welcome to the forums! :hello:

I think that has happened before. I kill an unknown spy and get messages saying we are glad you executed a knight from so-and-so. Too bad it doesn't let you do much about it though.

Torturing prisoners and losing Kingdom Power is a design flaw. It makes NO sense.

In the Medieval times, EVERY country used torture all the time, ever single day. They tortured anyone they liked, be it guilty or innocent.

Why would a kingdom lose prestige (aka kingdom power) because it tortured a single spy??

The only things that make sense is: when you use Torture, then ---

#1) your relations with the spy's nation will drop to the very worst faction

#2) It will cost you piety to torture the prisoner.... your kingdom piety will DROP because you are using inhumane and brutal tactics

If someone is making mods, I hope you listen to this suggestion :)

I have to agree. Losing KP for something like torture seems more like the developers projecting 20th century values (and communications, because how the hell would a population know that their ruler was torturing someone?) back onto the medieval world. I think of negative KP reflecting the types of conditions that abused the populace and would make people think seriously about rising up in revolt, and the torture of a spy certainly would not qualify.
