View Full Version : KoH does not startw/out any error message
Hi guys. I purchased my copy today, but alas, it will not start.
No problem with the instalation. No error messages when i click the desktop icon, or activate the .exe by other means.
I have an athlon 1800
512 mb ram, soundblaster audigy, win98 se
the newest drivers - except for my two cd rom drives - but I never had any problems with them.
I DO have nero on my system.... and I've read that KoH has a viscious copy protection.
I asure you that these cds are originals purchased today at hastings(store)
I can post th dxdiag log if it helps....
Please ... somebody help me. I want to get to enjoy my game.
Thanks in advance....

Try upgrading Direct X. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx
some times this helps since you seem to be running 98, your DX may be too old. Also do you have the cd in the drive when you click the launch?
If I remember correctly, the game does not do a DX ver check when installing like many other games do. So the dll may be older then the ones they used to develop it. Try updating and if that does not work message me the files and I will look them over.
Thanks for the reply. I apreciate it.
I should have metioned that I installed the direct x 9.0c with the game.
I'll mail you the log. Thanks again.
It's a weird problem, one I cannot find anywhere mentioned in this forum. I can't even start "configure KoH" ....

Your system appears to meet all the requirments for the game. Are you getting any errors? Does the hour glass come up and the cd start to spin when you click on the icon? Try un-installing, run defrag and disk scan. Re-install. try dis-abling your anti-virus program and firewall(if you have one). If none of that works, you may have a bad disk and need to take it back for a re-placement.
I did all you asuggested. Including getting a replacement. Nothing. I have the latest drivers, firmware etc. Disabled all anti -virus software.
The hourglas comes up for about a second, the cd does not start to spin. I cannot run any of the koh programs under start (like configure) other then unistall... thatr works just fine. Sigh. Unless i get another great idea, i wasted 40 bucks on this oh so tantalizing game. Grumble.
Any help is still greatly apreciated. Thanks,
Tricon

I too am having the same problem. have all the latest drivers and run windows 98se as well.
If I put the cd in it will bring up the main window (where you can choose to play or uninstal and such) I click play. I get an hour glass and then nothing. If I ctrl+alt+delt it says its running KOH but nothing is happening. really wish I knew how to fix this.
What background applications are you running (Firewalls, Anti Virus, Anti Spy etc)? One of those might interrupt the starting of the game process.

I have ad-aware, and at first I would just shut it down. Now I don't have it run on startup, and KOH still doesn't work. Nothing else is running except the very basics that need to run.
and if your wondering about viruses, I just reformated last weekend. still no good.

I have the same problem. Everything is well-dated with hardware and drive installations, but it always apears:
Please insert the original "Knights of Honor CD2" into your CD/DVD-drive.
At first I thought that I should crack it, but cracked it's still not working.
I am getting nervous.
I played around a bit. I removed ad aware and spybot deaktivated norton antivirus software... still no change. About 8 clean installs.... no change. The game refuses to start. Basically I have a 1,3 Gb spaceholder on my harddrive.
Really dissapointing.
I have a couple of new Ideas, and I'll try them later tonight. Since I purchased the game at a store with a strict return policy (and I already exchanged the game once for a new copy - just in case I had a broken CD) I cannot return the game (not that I raeally wanted to- what I really want is to PLAY it!).
Well heads up, maybe it'llwork one day....(grumble).

Feel the same as you do. *sigh*
OK. I have an update.
First of all,(stating the obvious) this problem seems to be not just a single fluke. It is encountered much too often in the US version of the game to be just that.
I finally got my game running yesterday.
What did I do to achieve this? I 'm not sure. As it can be seen on this thread, I followed every advice given - without any success.
Yesterday I downloaded the newest symantec update for Norton Antivirus- and utilities. I did a normal virus scan followed by the registry check-and-repair program.
Lo and behold, after that, KoH was working just fine.
Now, last month everything was up to date as well. (But i did not run the registry doctor.)And i repeatedly tried to run the game without success up to this weekend. The only other things I did was run the latest spybot and adaware on friday, and the symantec update on sunday.
I hope this helps some of the people here.
Thanks to everybody who tried to help. I apreciate it.
To all those who have the same problem I had: good luck. Maybe its a registry problem.
Hey , but be civil guys. I was also mad as heck. I too was angry about the "wasted" 40 bucks. But don't take it out on the people who are actually trying to help you.

I'm glad you made it.
Have fun playing! :go:

I too have a U.S. version, but I have a different antivirus program, V3Pro. I have shut everything off and the game still says I have a friggin' hook. Looks like more money down the drain for a game that wasn't properly tested before it was released. If cars had the same recall rate that games have patches, nobody would be driving. What's worse is when no patch comes out to fix the problem. The problem is not my virus program or Spybot but a lousy copy protection program on this game--the only game I have that requires I shut everything down in order to play it.
Shut everything off using cntrl+alt+delete?
Do you have a tool like Agnitum Outpost or Spysweeper or Windowblinds installed? Those should be uninstalled.
