hi.

I'm now testing next version of HolyRome mod.
There are several issues I'd like to add to the mod, but in some I'm not sure, so I decided to ask the community what would you prefere. This is also because I know that HolyRome and Glory of God already are somehow twin mods(mostly due to me being kind of copycat, I must always thank to Angryminer for his ideas:go:) and I don't want to make them even more twin by adding some parts of new GoG

1) make the game peasant-less or not?
Now I play in peasantless game and I like it. But I somehow feel like a traitor of the Developers(to eliminate a unit they worked so hard on)

2) would you agree with changing kingdom power rather to "kingdom/king's reputation" as it is in GoG?

3) this is not very actual now(as I prefere to do other changes first), but I would like to try to add one more time period to the game: should it be carolingian (around 800) or very late medieval (1400 AD with Turks surrounding Constantinople)
and if you were for "carolingian" scenario, how should it look like? Charlemagne's empire as one big empire (800: http://img7.echo.cx/img7/8598/scenario8004nq.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)) or already splited into 3 parts after Verdun treaty in 843?(here is map of religion spread in 800/850 http://img237.echo.cx/img237/2913/religion8009tu.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us))

Right now the game looks just very fine but still it needs more testing and some things should be fixed...
My actual testing game I started as Saladin and my Ayyubid empire is after over 4 hours on gamespeed 4 the most powerfull kingdom.

PS: other parts of future HR are:
- clerics improving happiness in provinces
- made traders be worth learnig more than now
- I would like to merge builder and landlord into one knight having abilities of both
- force AI to use more knights (make knights hiring lower)
- pay a little with rebels (make them standable for AI, but also hard for the player...)
- ad quests: if a kingdom(say France) splits into smaller guys it will be possible for them to reunite it again, possible for Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Hungary, Poland, Bohemia, Sicily, Serbia, Ottomans, Rus, Scotland and Aragon
- improve a little number of units per squad
- finaly fix the map names

- I will possibly try to make papacy playable
and some more ballancing details

I voted for scenarios 800 and 1400 because I would like to play as Carolingians or defend christian world against Ottomans. And also I like Angryminer's KP changes.
I also have more sugestions, but I missed that button. What about removing the peasants, but making town guards available? They should cost 150-200 gold and require town guard. What do you think about that?
EDIT: About Papacy, I don't think it should be playable

it's great :go: thanks I'll put them in :go:

I think about making just scenario mod with Carolingians, Turkish expansion and some other mid period... I think about either:
1260-Mongol Conquest, Poland splited into duchies, Bohemia dominates Austria, Jerusalem is just about to fall, Byzantia is reunited(1261), but Seljuks not formed yet, Almohads defeated and about to leave Spain, HRE ocntrolling Italy, Lithuania christian, TO holding Prussia
or
1300 French-Flandrian war, Rum Sultanate splited into pieces, Bohemian domination in Poland, Austria rising, Sicily divided, Muslims kicked ou of Spain(except Granada), Mameluks on the top of their power...

Hi..
Removing the peasants like in GoG doesn't totally remove them. They don't appear in armies anymore, but in rebellions the peasants will still fight (as they are supposed to do). So the peasants remain in the game, but only where they should be (not in a disciplined army).
Also I believe that the carolingian-campaign will require some more tweaking to KoH. It is rather unpropably that the carolingian empire will remain in this size. Byzantia usually brakes apart sooner or later even in GoG, and I'm rather clueless what I shall do to help them more. Of course one could say that it would just be realistic that these empire fall down (like they did in reality) but the we want KoH to be challanging, don't we?

I would really like to see some more of your nice quests. I just love it when fallen empires arise again (yesterday the AI united bulgaria and made it an 10-province-empire, nice :go: ).

Its good isn't it? I saw the Highlands unite Scotland, admittedly not too challenging for the AI but it was surprising. Yesterday I witness Tuscany unite Italy :hello: That surprised me too. :oogle2:

I have't had time to play with your mods yet so I really shouldn't comment but I voted anyway :silly:
(peasentless and different starting scenarios sound like the best ideas to me)

Keep it peasantless. Those peasants pillaging get annoying, having to send a valued marshal to get them...

Also, something else. I think you should (if possible) make a royal wedding be able to invoke an alliance. The computers do it, so why can't the player?

I've voted for all three new scenarios, because all three seems to be interesting. Anyway, for some time I'll not be able to play any of them.

I think I will keep it peasantless(btw @Angryminer, yes I know. Peasants belong to rebel armies only)

and to invoking marriage. In fact you can do it. But you just demand your kin kingdom to attack some other.. and if they refuse they would suffer same penalty like you

Does removing the peasants actually improve the performance of the AI nations?

Elvain

yes, they build only better units...

Would it be possible to add new periods and keep the old ones, or they must be overwriten? And maybe should the arrow range of the fortifed camp be smaller?

Elvain

I'm afraid it would require replacing "old" time periods

I will look at fortified camps range... but don't know when

PS: why some of you vote for 2 options that are meant to be oposite? (just improve vanilla KP vs. make it Kingdom Respect instead)

Elvain
03-07-2005, 22:31
well, The poll haven't helped me much, as many of you voted for both of oposite options.

However 2 things are decided and I will continue testing with them:
1) Holy Rome 1.5 will be peasant less
2) I will start to work on a map for 1400 (http://img149.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scenario14006gm.jpg) AD Turkish expansion scenario

as there is no decisive choice between Kingdom Power and Kingdom Reputation I'll try to offer both versions
but one thing I need to help:
850 or 800 (http://img7.echo.cx/img7/8598/scenario8004nq.jpg) ? Empire of Charlemagne or it's successors(France, Germany and Lotharingia)?
also has anybody ideas for mid period?
opotions:
1260 - Mongol invasion I(Latins and crusaders alive)
1270 - Mongol Invasion II(Byzantia restored, crusaders smashed)
1300

will there be any objections to this map of TRurkish expansion Scenario?
1400-Turkish Expansion (http://img73.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scenario14008kz.jpg)
Provence and Burgundy - vassals of France
Croatia and Wallachia - vassals of Hungary
Moladavia - vasal of Poland
White Sheep - vasal of Ilkhanids
Brandenburg - Vasal of Bohemia

Byzantia at war with Ottomans(no randomness)
Poland and Lithuania allies(no randomness), being together at war with Teutonic order(no randomness)

If any ideas, they are welcome

Serbia - vasal of Hungary and Ottomans, but since that isn't possible, maybe vasal of Hungary and ally of Ottomans. But how are allies set at the beggining?

Can we really get 1400 in without gunpowder and the accompanying changes in warfare?

Elvain
04-07-2005, 19:49
do we have any other choice?

We can upgrade janissaries for this scenario...

@Xuca
i know yet that vassalage and wars can be pre-set in kingdoms_XXX.ini
I haven't tried it yet, but I think that alliance and NA pact can be set there as well. But as I said I'm not sure and we must try it first. Thanks for all your help, Xuca :go:

It's probably too late to grumble about it but removing peasants from armies is ahistorical... not to mention that it'll make HoR a lot like GoG... Diversity rules!

How about making peasants and other "controversial" stuff optional? You could do it by a simple DOS .bat file, with choice menu...

I'm not a programmer.. I have no idea how to do it...

btw, check this thread (http://forum.sunflowers.de/showthread.php?t=4770) there are some other things to vote about... thanks
