Help needed in forcing a peace

I've done well as Spain but want a peace due to war weariness and I just want to catch up on my building. But the Papacy that declared war on me because of Italy bringing him in won't go for a white peace. I total dominate him but don't want to wipe him out. If I raid I don't get peace because I have troops on their land. If I pull the troops off, they say they will fight to the death. Well if raiding them makes them too scared and not raiding them makes then not scared enough, what can I do? They will go for a white peace but only if I become a vassel.... :scratch:

Give them some gold coins. That usually does the job.

Or offer them land in the middle of your territory with no defense and get rid of town guard before you do so (if possible and not removing other things). Onec you get peace and war weariness is 0, you can start right up again and take back your land there and then just take over Papacy! (well, maybe...)

Thanks for the info. I'll give the gold a try. Land idea sounds good but by luck of the draw almost all the land I took has nothing or Fish only for natural resources.... and of course the one province they want is the one with three. Nooo way. :nono:

Hate that I have to give them anything on principle (as I'm winning), but looks like that's the way I have to go. I'll just do it but put them on my 'to be punished' list :biggrin:

if you pull your troops back ansd just wait a little while , they will sometimes accept the peace. Alsdo if you can get others to declare war on them, they tend to accept peace from you.

there is also the obvious stop fighting. if you just quit attacking they will slowly see this and be more apt to accept piece. usually in history as well as the game countries tend to be upset after an invasion and at least will try to take revenge, even the beaten will try when their homeland is threatened.

Wipe them out!!! Genocide is the only solution here.

Then, when you are done exterminating them off the map, you can GIVE away those provinces you conquered but you did not want to keep. Give them away to friendly allies to raise your relations.
