I am playing Jerusalem in the Glory of God mod, which is one hell of a challenge. I'm on my feet and holding my own finally.

My question is this:

As Jerusalem, your king and court are Catholic while your cities are Muslim, meaning you get NO piety. How are you supposed to start gaining piety to convert your cities, among other things? I found a way (below), but wonder if it is the only way. Any thoughts?

How I did it:

I invaded Crete, it's being the ONLY catholic property anywhere near. Once I took it (after several attempts), I began gaining 2 piety per turn. After a loooooong time, I gained enough to convert Palestine, which thank God (no pun intended), I achieved on my first try. I'm slowly converting other provinces.

Good fun.

yes. It is the only way. That's why I gave Jerusalem stronger units in HolyRome (this layout is originaly from HolyRome: Jerusalem having Palestine and Lebanon both being muslim provinces)
The only other possibility is to have marriage with some other catholic country and have luck to inherit their lands.

It's so challenging because to get some piety you need to attack Venice, one of very few catholic kingdoms(Antioch, Latins, Solun and Athens-all having orthodox provinces)
btw Latins, Antioch, Solun and Athens have the same problem as well as Teutonic order (but they are luckier: they have catholic Denmark, Poland and Sweden very close)

Doesn't the king's religion skill give you any piety?

Yes, the king's skill is taken into account. However, I was unlucky enough to start the game with a king AND his successor who had no religion bonus. Once I took Venice, a new king coincidentally came to power with one bonus. Together they gave me a total of 2 piety.

Elvain, you and Angryminer did a really good job making a great game better. I enjoyed the vanilla version, but now I feel I have to weigh EVERY move with great care. It's taken me hours of gameplay to just take three provinces (all by combat).
