View Full Version : Any true medieval MMORPG's?
Just wondering if anyone has heard of any mmorpgs's that are historically based in the medieval era vs. the generic fantasy/medieval ones out there. Something akin to Pirates of the Burning Sea (in Development) which is based in the historical caribbean wars of the 17th-18th centuries. I would think that there would be a tremendous market out there for something like KOH to be a persistant online mmorpg with castle building, diplomacy, wars, economic crafting etc. I have not even heard of any that are in development. Seems like a wonderful niche market thats going totally undeveloped.
I don't think so, maby Dark age of Camelot but i am not sure.
DAOC hardly is very medieval. It's a mix of dark age myths and standard fantasy.
Pirates of the Burning Sea seems to get some fantasy elements as well, which kinda disapoints me. I'm a great fan of the era and would like to see something more realistic.

I always wanted a JediKnightsII-look-alike-medieval game...
What's cooler than two guys bashing up each other with swords?

Yeah, I can see room for a FPS-style multiplayer (even MMO) fantasy/medieval game. It would be cool.
I played DAoC for awhile and it's definitely fantasy blended as Jorghan stated. It seems that other historical eras are starting to have persistant online or mmorpg's coming out such as "Roma Victor" for the Roman era, "A Tale in the Desert" for the Egyptian civilization, etc. While these are not purely historical, they definitely are not your typical fantasy/medieval EQ clone. I'm looking/hoping for an historically accurate (or at least losing the wizards, undead, etc.) persistant online game set in Europe with the actual map where the focus would be more on elements of warfare (personal combat as well as battles/seiges), economy, diplomacy, etc. Several online games already have seiges and realm warfare, just wondering about a very popular historical era that seems to be churning out a tremendous amount of RTS titles, but not a single mmorpg title. KOH how about taking up the challenge after completing this game?
Hehe, I would actually love a persistant MMORTS, in medieval time. I'm thinking something where you play a dynasty. You start out with a knight, find yourself a bride and start building your family. So you will have your sons etc. If one family member dies, well, you have more. Then there are countries, and under those countries duchies, and so on. Everything is ruled by players. One dynasty rules the throne while the others are noblemen under the king down to simple knights. Want to become the king? Challenge the current one, in other words, start a civil war. But if you have a civil war, your whole nation is more sensitive to attack from outside.
Of course, some things would have to be changed to make this possible. I would probably be better to make a fantasy world, even if we could tone down the fantasy part, but for the simple reason that we want to create or own kingdoms and not use ones that actually exist. (For game balance). Also, it should be possible to play a female knight.
Enough rambling from me about this.
