Ok, I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the Dmz forum, if this is wrong place please move it and I'm sorry for posting in wrong place.
This thread is where people come a put different facts(no things that can't be proved, only things that have been proved) about anything that they think is interesting or can teach something to someone.

Here is my first fact.
Did you know that during the first centuries of christianity, priests and all religius leaders were allowed to get married? The practise was stoped during the middle ages by Pope Gregory VII (1073-1085) for many reasons, one of which was that the children of this people where inheriting their properties, meaning the curch was lossing their land.
you can read the article here http://www.catholic-ew.org.uk/faith/living/celibacy.htm

Actually, the practice was stopped maybe only in the Catholic lands. On the other hand, even today if you want to become an Orthodox pop ("priest") you should have a popadia (pop's wife), i.e. marriage is obligatory for Orthodox priests, afaik.

Any ways I found another strange thing I hadn't notice until now.

Did you know that after Napoleon's death, his penis was cut off and sold all around the world, and that the current whereabouts of Napoleon's penis is still a matter of some dispute, though by most accounts it is in the posession of an american urologist named John Kingsley Lattimer who paid $38,000 for it at a 1969 auction?

LOL you would have to be a total wierdo to pay $38,000 ( should be around $100,000 today) for a penis, but then again there are lot of wierd people that will pay much more today

Did you know, no animal, once frozen solid (i.e., water solidifies and turns to ice) survives when thawed, because the ice crystals formed inside cells would break open the cell membranes. However there are certain frogs that can survive the experience of being frozen. These frogs make special proteins which prevent the formation of ice (or at least keep the crystals from becoming very large), so that they actually never freeze even though their body temperature is below zero Celsius. The water in them remains liquid: a phenomenon known as 'supercooling.' If you disturb one of these frogs (just touching them even), the water in them quickly freezes solid and they die.

Glad to see people have been showing their facts
I found these facts and I can't help myself to post them. they are so stupid and funny :silly:

-A reward of $1,000 was offered for information leading to the capture and conviction of a man robbing taxi drivers. The man turned himself in and demanded the reward as a result. He received a 20 year sentence for aggravated robbery instead.
I can imagen what he said "Hi, I'm the guy that robbed the taxi drivers, ahhh can I have my reward now?"

-In 1970, Russel T. Tansie, an Arizona lawyer filed a $100,000 damage lawsuit against God. The suit was filed on behalf of Mr. Tansie's secretary, Betty Penrose, who accused God of negligence in His power over the weather when He allowed a lightning bolt to strike her home. Ms. Penrose won the case when the defendant failed to appear in court. Whether or not she collected has not been recorded.
I got no words for this

-A man went in to rob a bank. He demanded the clerk to give him all the money. They told him to go sit out in his car and they would bring him the bags of money. He agreed and went out to his car. In the meantime, the people in the bank called the police. When they got there the man was still sitting in his car waiting for the money and they arrested him.
This guy most have been retarded or something

-Spies must always know how to go underground—it's in the nature of their job. But during World War I, Heinrich Albert, a German operative in the United States, failed miserably at this task.
The guy was carrying in his briefcase plans to sabotage American factories. So what does he do? He takes the New York City subway and manages to leave his briefcase on the train! American agents following him recovered the documents. Lol talk about been a lousy spy

Actually Dobber to be more specitic, the active substance you are referring to is "lycopene" which is a long-chain, highly unsaturated carotenoid in plants. Although a much better suggestion is to eat processed tomatoe foods. Non-processed tomatoes have a much lower lycopene content. In other words eating ketchup will have a significantly higher lycopene content in comparison to a raw tomatoe. If you're wondering why, the reason is rather simple. It's an unsarutated carotenoid thus it's found within the cell membrane. Thus the action of processing will in fact release it. We do not have a very good enzymatic system for removing it from the membrane. Another thing to keep in mind is that it acts in various ways, mainly as an antioxidant just as ascorbic acid (AKA vitamin C) and tocopherol (AKA vitamin E).

While were on the subject of medicine....

A tan is in fact your cells response to damage. Yes that's right, a tan actually means your cells are registering possible damage. This is done by the fact that the DNA found within the nucleus is getting minor damage, as are specific proteins namely HSP family (Heat Shock Proteins). Their response is to increase (induction) of melanin genes. Higher melanin is produced which forms something of a spherical shield around the nucleus causing you to get that brown colour. Lesson: DON'T GET TANS! A very light tan is fine but not much more then that!

Someone just informed me of this next tidbit.

70 million prescritions for ASA (Acetylsalicylic Acid Acid, AKA Aspirin) is made every year in the US alone with 30 billion tablets sold OTC annually.
