View Full Version : Two Questions: Inflation And Sieges

I've two un-related questions.
The first is in regards to Inflation. I'm accustomed to a degree of Inflation, and it's usually quite manageable, but in my current game it's out of control. It shoots to the high percentages at an alarming rate, it seems I'm constantly giving gold gifts to my friends and neighbours, and I build structures extremely fast as I just force build to spend the gold and reduce inflation. But is there a better, more stable way to control inflation?
Second small question. When laying siege to a city, the food meter shown, is that my food stocks or the enemies? And how exactly does that food meter relate to my standing in the siege? It's never been clear to me, and not knowing has never seemed to adversely impact my sieges, but I thought I'd just ask while I'm here.
1. don't care of the inflation. As you have enough money, you don't need to care IMO
2. The food shown during sieges is food of besieged town. When your army runs out of food, their morale drops down and it may (possibly) happen that your men die. So when you see your army's morale dropping, stop the siege (retreat) and refill the food or (not recomended by me) assault the castle.

Thanks Elvain!
I seem to have entirely too much money for my Irish Earldom. I've only got 8 provinces and the income of a much larger nation. Of course the up-side is that all my neighbours love me.
then try to "buy" good relations and then ask them for some provinces :dwink:

Ah, I had not thought of that. I didn't realise good relations meant a better chance of obtaining provinces via demanding. I'll give it a try. I have Harmonious or Unified relations with East Anglia, and they own what was formerly Wessex, meaning they're cramping my island!
Along these same lines, if you marry one of your Princes to a Princess, you generally have a land claim upon the death of the other nation's King, and if you marry one of your Princesses to a foreign Prince, they have claim to your lands, correct?

you're correct

So really Princesses are of limited use? Either good for establishing an "in" so as to make Espionage more effective or for using as a bargaining chip in treaties?
Those East Anglians refused my demands for provinces, darn them!
I'm really trying to sort out the diplomatic approach to the game. Waging war gets a bit tedious after a while.
They're for limited use indeed.
By the way - if the food stock of the besieged town runs out you'll win soon.

Yes, I've noticed that... Usually I'm too impatient to wait and I just storm the city, but this time round I'm learning to wait them out, it's well worth the patience.
when you have suddely a KP drop to -5 for example, marrying 2 princesses might helpt to please your popultation.

Yes, were all things in place for that. I find you can never depend on using your princes and princesses strategically when you really need to. Either I don't have any or there are no available spouses. Which is pretty indicative of the KoH diplomacy system in general; when all is in place it's great, otherwise it's useless.

If you are weak then siege if you are strong then assault

I think the Norman units are "broken" actually.. Seem to recall a thread on the topic being around here somewhere.
Lately I've been relying on sieges, and it usually goes quite well. Much better than just storming the town. Patience seems to indeed be a virtue in this matter.
Ya, Normans will be much stronger in my mod. The game states something about armour, but in vanilla KoH Normans don't actually have armour.
Better use Varangians than Roman Ift. by the way.
