Yes, it possible to just do a battle - i.e you get a pile of cash and then you buy the units you need and then you can do a battle - no mission, no nothing - just plain battle ;)

hope this answers your question :)

Well this game isn't missioned bassed. Randome battles can happen anytime. When you are the least prepared they could happen. Or when you are fighting another battle your enemy could have an ally which could attack you in another province.

I advice you to take a little look at the FAQ on the main site, very interesting.

1. There are three entry years (you can choose one when you enter a new game).
The countries of these three entry years are in the game (nearly historically correct).
2. You can choose every nation that's in. That means nearly every nation in medieval europe.
3. Yes, there is a skirmish multiplayer.
That basically means:
You have troops, the enemy has troops, both armies stand on a battlefield, only one will survive.

Do you understand the meaning of the word random?
The AI players decide to attack you. It's not a random-value which causes an enemy-army to spawn somewhere and attack you...
The AI's decisions are based on the player's and AI-player's actions. An AI-player may think "Someone attacked my nation? Counter-attack!" or "My dear friend and ally is being attacked! Counter-attack!" or "He doesn't want his son to marry my daughter? Attack!".

That really isn't random.

Yes but we don't know that, were not gonne be oh he decided to attack me soon, i should prepar. We woun't know that he is about to attack or later so its random. When ever we replay the game the battles aren't genne happen at the same time or place so they are random. After you start a new game that a.i. woun't do the same thing he did last time for all you know he could end up your ally. So it is random.

Not entirely random.
The diplomatic features in KoH allow you to influence the AI players and i.e. make them sign NonAggretion-agreements.

I agree with you, events are not scripted. But they aren't entirely random, too.
