How long will my marshall be a crusader?

untill he reaches the target. It depends on how far it is and also if you decide him to just pillage the province or take it as his own new province.
you can end the crusade by signing a peace with the target kingdom

It should end after they pillage the first time... that's enough $$ IMO.
