I understand why the devs decided to not include a date clock in the game (since the game is open ended), and that's cool. But, I would still like some way of "imagining" the passage of time, to sorta "roleplay" a bit. I figured out how to use the clock (press f11). Now, the clock just counts up in hours, right? Does anyone else count each hour as a day, and each day as a year? Or is there a commonly accepted way of looking at the time clock as a calendar? How much "gametime" represents a year?

Thanks!

I think there is not any commonly acceptable recountment of time.

But I created my own based on kings' aging. When I was writing an AAR I counted every 3 minutes as one year so the kings were being "crowned mostly abuot age of 20 and were dying generaly abuot age of 50-60.
Following this scheme one hour=20 years, 1 minute = 4 months. It's neither too fast, neither too slow and - what was most important for me - it corresponded with kings' aging (well patriarchs were aging bit slower, but why couldn't they live untill 80, even in middle ages, they were closer to the God )

I liked it but I never saw anyone else using it. I also never really understood how others count time in their AARs

and even my longest game (50 hours) did not lasted too long at all, only 1000 years (but I am sure that if I played really it would be more than twice shorter - I was just letting AI to play all kingdoms)

Thanks Elvain. Reading over the board I kept seeing people's references to "years and months" and assumed there was some fan convention out there to deal with the game clock. I'll use your system, it makes sense. 1 hour is 20 years, 1 minute is four months.

The game clock isn't moddable? It would be nice if someone could make the game clock display months and years instead of minutes and hours.

But please notice that the ingame-clock also counts during battles. So if you spend just 8 minutes in the battleview you should notice that most propably not 32 whole months have passed.

Oh my! Thanks for pointing that out.

That's to bad, the aspect of the game so far that I find lacking is that there is no way to keep track of the progress of time. *shrugs*

I always measured time "by feel" and the clock. That works fine.

Does anyone have any advice or tips of how to keep track of your generations? Take screenshots? Notes?

After a while, I don't know if I'm playing with my 4th generation of kings or the 10th.

It would be nice if there was a record feature so you could see how your family tree progressed and your kingdom grew.

it depends. Maybe when you swith "pause during battles" off it works how you describe it but when the game is paused during battles, the battle can last 20 minutes, but when you return back to Europe view, the time is same as it was when you entered the battle

Yes, I make notes and then make a "tree". And if I am independent orthodox I also include patriarchs in the notes...
