View Full Version : Official NoCD Patch request...
I would like them to do it. A lot of the companies do it before discontinuing support for a game. It is a kind thing to do and it wins them the love of the people. Don't you think it's time? What does it cost - compare with how much the gain will be...

How is this question "official"?
This is tantamount for asking the company to hand the game over to pirates. :nono:
Oh, yes, great idea! They will gain so much! Instead of peopling buying the game they can download it for free, now that is an amazing profit strategy!:bash:

Where's a site moderator when you need one?
you don't pay for the patch 1.03, the only yet released patch. It can be downloaded for free so I don't nunderstand what is point of this thread.
If you ask for patch, there already are several threads about this topic.
If you ask for something else, please tell us more about your request...
but if I understand your request right, you ask for something what is illegal. I just hope I misunderstood you

Actually, i do own some games (which i bought of course) which, after i patched them, don't need a cd-rom/dvd anymore. It's very handy.
Well, I don't believe that a company that has experience with post-communist markets will do something like this.
In countries east of Germany games like KoH cost almost 1/10 of average month wage(at least this is situation of KoH in Czech republic and I believe here the situation is much much better than in other countries). Untill the games are so relatively expensive here, many people will still try to get illegal copies.
Let's give those at least this small disadvantage...
(the sum I payed for KoH is as high as price of 100 0.5l beers! (not the best but still good quality) )
Sunflowers don't even react to a second patch request, let alone to this no-cd patch request.
And then, they would shoot themselves in the feet if they did that, they won't, thus.

we are simply not allowed to do so ... quite simple ... and if a original CD gets broken, report this via http://support.sunflowers.de and you will get instruction how we replace the disc.

Not necessarily. A very good example is the game "X2 - The Threat": There is an official no-CD patch available at the download section of Egosoft (http://www.egosoft.com/download/x2/patches_en.php ). However, it is limited for registered users only (i.e. you have to register with a nickname and to indicate the serial number of the game), and it is forbidden to distribute it.
Right, so that would be possible. Thanks Roadrunner, for clearing that up! :go:

there is a gap between "can make" and "allowed to make" ... depends on contracts and licences ... i cannot tell details but there is no general approach do this.
Before y'all getting all righteous on me and threaten with moderators and what nots: read my original post again: a lot of companies (example Triumph Studios with "Age Of Wonders") before discontinuing support for a game issue a final patch that does nothing by remove the copy protection. This is done when there aren't any sales anymore, no money to be made out of a game and it is a final good-will gesture towards honest buyers ( if you pirated the game you don't need no CD patch, do you?)....
Now, if , as according to our moderator, there are contractual obligations preventing the company from doing this, then it's another thing alltogether, and the case is closed. It was worth a shot though, and maybe if instead of crying stoopid things you would have read the original post closer, you would have had a chance to play it without your cd in.
Thanks fer the answers,
Jabba
The prices you can get good older games at nowadays is so close to free, that, even if I didn't believe piracy is wrong, it wouldn't be worth it.
Port Royale can be bought for like ten dollars, 1602 for about the same, the great games Civ II, Age of Empires Gold, Majesty Gold, and Risk II can be bought in Gamestop altogether for about ten dollars, Star Wars Empire at War for two dollars (okay, so maybe not that:silly: ), but my point is, there really isn't much point in pirating unsupported games. If KoH is forgotten by Sunflowers, and a little amount of time passes, KoH will be pretty inexpensive anyway.
Btw, all those games I mentioned above happen to be pretty great games, except for Risk II.

Please provide a signed 64bit copy protection driver. I don't mind the copy protection, but I would like to play the game on Vista x64 just as I can on Vista x86. I understand that only W2k and XP are supported, but how hard can it be to provide a signed driver?

Only Knights of Honor issues are addressed here.
If you download a Nocd patch ( "illegal ") It's legal to use it for yourself if you have bought a copy of KoH. When you give the copy to others, 'distributing' it turns illegal. But for your own use and easiness ?
I think he ment that bss should patch the game in a way the patch doesn't require cd in the drive
and you people are talking about crack?

Most everyone in this thread understands that as his meaning! I see one maybe two people that mistook it as a crack request, but no more than that. Most everyone is discussing the fact that if a NoCD patch was offered, then there might be a lot of piracy result! And then one person got in the wrong thread!
