User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.
mods/smods/admins will grant reputation by ranking good posts. the internal amount of points is translated to a moniker.

ranking list:
User is infamous around these parts
User can only hope to improve
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past
User is an unknown quantity at this point
User is on a distinguished road
User will become famous soon enough
User has a spectacular aura about
User is a jewel in the rough
User is just really nice
User is a glorious beacon of light
User is a name known to all
User is a splendid one to behold
User has much to be proud of
User has a brilliant future
User has a reputation beyond repute

the goal is to establish one or more "higher" usergroups with additonal rights, like custom usertitle e.g.
is still discussed with our forum staff

ziel ist es, weitere usergruppen mit mehr rechten, wie z.b. eigene usertiteln etc. zu etablieren.
dies wird gerade intern noch besprochen.

User is off the scale means he has no value, yet ... i am still figuring out, how this can be coz their is a default value ... ?

From what I could tell everyone who became a member prior to July of 2004has "off the scale" as their reputation. At least I know it doesn't mean that I am considered strange or something of that nature! :biggrin:

Personally, I like the idea, as long as only mods/admins/whatever are allowed to give votes. Otherwise, this could be abused too easily.

I agree with that, and maybe one of the rights a user could gain by reaching a certtain level of reputation would be the ability to place votes as well. Maybe like a forum monitor that can vote reputation, but not have any other rights as a moderator does.
