Is there a purpose for the gold coins other than buying things from the Shach traders? And the occasional trade off for information from someone?

No, these are the two only uses for the gold coins.

And you will see, there are no problems with gold coins. You always will have enough. ;)

So every time I have opportunity to buy potions from traders, I should do so. Start stockpiling them early on, so to speak.

Actually you don't need to buy potions. The potions which you find, should be enough to get trough the game.
But you should buy every magic cube. ;)

I bought the cube in Steamertown, but have not encountered any traders yet in the Fairy Forest.

In the Fairy-town Jelon you will meet Lonicera. She sells things, but I can't remember if she sells magic cubes, too.
And in Techomage aren't many traders, but you won't miss any of them. ;)

Do you need those magic cubes? I never used them... and I'm somewhere in the vulcano.
But as you get more then enough small potions but cannot store more then 99, I just sell them and buy as many big potions as possible. Makes "refreshment" a little bit faster..

Do you need those magic cubes?

The magic cubes when selected from your menu add 1 point of value to whichever characteristic(strength, intelligence, constitution or mystic) they are for. In other words they are a boost to those, a little extra you cannot get otherwise.

I see you are much more observant than little me... as long as I manage to get through without being killed. But I will spare the cube for fighting Dagomar...
I'm still in the vulcano, no time to play at the moment.

It's no use sparing the cube. Use it as soon as possible; you will get the extra point for the relevant ability and have it for the rest of the game.

I was trying to point that out, but obviously I did not make myself understood.

In fact you can get one magic cube in each world of the game.

1 from your mother in Dreamertown when you flee. (You will get it however you play, canīt miss it.)
1 from the merchant in Steamertown. (You could miss this one)
1 from Fredo in the hive if i am not mistaken. (Should be also a canīt miss)
1 from Lonicera in the fairy forest. (Hmmm, well you can miss it, but you would have to be very blind, )
1 from the Shach merchant in the Canyon. (This one you also could miss.)
1 from the scholar of the OldOnes that opens the door for you. (You canīt miss it.)
1 from the Shach merchant at the market place in Shach town that stands there for all the time. (This one you also could miss.)

The ruins...........hmmmmmmmm.........i canīt remember really. But as the examples above show it should be logical there is one as well. I am not sure about it but i guess itīs also a canīt miss issue. Well, i will see it soon, i am finishing Volcano today for the TM-contest. (Which seems to has fallen into forgetness....... )

Iīm not sure about Fredo, but I think it was something else he gave me, canīt remember what it was.:nono:
But I found a cube at the master enemy, the big spider.
It was hidden in one of the corners.

So I missed some cubes...
At the spider you definitely find a cube, it is the only one I remember to have used immediately, being near death
and short of potions!

When I was playing, I found that the cubes did not refill anything, they just raised the characteristic one point.

I didn't notice that, being near death, that's why I didn't see the value of the cubes! Next time replaying I shall not miss them, NO!

In no way! Take all what you can get. The cubes make you stronger, handier and your magic power will be better!
