Killer Slowdowns

I'm playing Elvain's Holy Rome 1.7 and about 30 minutes into the game, everything slows to a crawl. I've turned off everything in preferences, but it doesn't help.

I played the Norse in a previous game with this mod, and it worked just fine. I'm playinmg the Normans now.

Any suggestions?
