I've tried these mods but all of them require some degree of making it harder for yourself by following silly rules. The fact is that no matter whats been done to the mods, the AI is no challenge and it ****s cause i like the game but frankly it was more fun when i didn't know how to play that well. Is there any chance of things improving? Better mods or a patch or anything?

try to do better mod?

PS: I don't think you have to follow any rules to play mods. To be honest, we do our best to make challenge in game as long as possible and to make it start as soon as possible (understand: to make Ai use good units as soon as possible and to make AI kingdoms strong enough to give you at least some effective resistence).
But once your empire rises to over 15 provinces it's simply too easy as there is no bad boy factor (can't be given by modding). In european history it was almost a natural law that when some kingdom become too powerfull the others united against it. the game Ai follows rather rule of east asian civilization: when someone becomes powerfull, let's join him.

another thing. I wrote some recomendations in Holy Rome 1.7 thread. Those are there not to help you to have the game harder, but right the oposite. I got several PM's or mails that it is very hard to get money in HR1.6 and questions how to have mre money. So in the next version I wrote how to get more money in the start of a game
