View Full Version : big cities
is it still possible to build very big cities like in anno 1503? If I see the screenshots of anno 1701, the cities seem so small. you don't have to scroll to see the entire city!

First of all:
Welcome to my first posting in this new board:
Now to my answer:
You are still able to build cities that are larger than a single screen. If you download our E 3 Trailer and take a look at the cities in there you will get a quite good impression of large cities:

Well, I think wisco meant really big cities - cities bigger than you could imagine right now, cities which cover the whole island - and maybe bigger islands than available at the release of 1701. In Anno 1602, the fans could create cities which were too big for the game, and I think the same was with Anno 1503.

I'm not sure if this issue is most important :]. I would better see a variety of goods, buildings and ideas from wishlist on AD1503 board.
On the other hand - to build big city we need only a big island :]
I would imagine we can build them as big as we want and can support!

Karrenschieber, the developer, once said that you can build towns bigger than in 1602 but slightly smaller than in 1503. He couldn't name the exact number of people though. The cities that you see on the screens are just sample cities.

and you have to compare the amount of houses instead of the amount of inhabitants, because inhabitants per house can be much different.
in 1503 biggest cities have more than 10,000 houses (equals more than 300,000 aristocrats).
i asked karrenschieber to answer this question, but never got an answer.

So, you are saying that there is no set amount of people that populate the particular levels of houses as in the past. Say one Merchant house may have 19 people in it and another have 27 people?
Or is that what you never got an answer on?

AFAIK, there will be more "people that populate the particular levels of houses as in the past".

Are there going to be really massive islands or continents that take up most of the map to build large cities on?
Or are the screens all going to have the small, medium or large sized islands to play?
Also, are all the islands going to be different?
because in anno 1503 some of the islands had the same geographic features like mountains and rivers but were in different places on the map.
